ATA 100 vs ATA133 |

I have been using OSX so successfully on my PM7300 with Sonnet G3 300, ATI Radeon and Yamaha CRW8424, that I have decided to upgrade this machine further and squeeze another couple of years out of it. I am purchasing a Sonnet G4 800 processor. Is there any real advantage of ATA 133 over ATA 100 in this machine? Is anyone using a Sonnet Tempo Trio in this machine with any luck? I realise that if I buy a large ATA 133 drive it will still be useful in a couple of years when I buy a new machine. I look forward to you response. Richard |

I am not certain, but I do not believe the ATA/100 controller card from Sonnet allows large HD support. I've not seen any firmwares for the ATA/100 denoting >137 GB HD support. This has only been seen in the ATA/133 cards from what I can tell. As for actual speed boosts, going from ATA/66 to ATA/100 you will notice. Going from ATA/100 to ATA/133, there should be very little, if any, real speed difference. Now, give me SATA/150 and we'll talk speed boosts. :) |

There is no perceptible difference in performance between the two that you would see. I have an Acard ATA/133 and a Sonnet Tempo ATA/100. I use the Tempo now because the Promise controller chip allows my Pioneer DVD burner to be recognized by iDVD. |
