What difference (if any) is there between the two. It seems that both are being used and was wondering if performance or compatibility. Tim |

Well, XPF boots in really old world machines, including ones using old world CPU's (as PPC604). I believe Sonnet X is developed to work only with their CPU upgrades, right? That would be a difference, I guess. |

I think it depends on your machine. I had an 8600 that the Sonnet software really helped a lot and XPostfacto was good, but felt a little slower. Now with my 9600, I can ONLY use XPostfacto...for some reason the Sonnet installer hangs up and doesn't even work for me. The only difference between the boards is the 9600 must use a graphics card and the only card I have is an ATI 7000. Something tells me if I had my old 16 mb Orion that it would have been fine. As an aside, I shot an email to Sonnet and their reply was that essentially their software and XPostfacto are the same thing. |

XPF seems to be running fine with my SOnnet G4 800 in a PTP, but will it work faster with Sonnet X? my L2 and L3 caches are enabled, can it get better with Sonnet X? |

Essentially no difference that I can tell except for using the Sonnet kernel extension that gets install. This enables the L2 and L3 cache on a Sonnet G4 card which really speeds up the boot process. Only Ryan can probably tell us if the other kernel extensions are essentially the same ones he is using. I personally use XPF with only the Sonnet kernel extension for the cache enabling. My system is stable as can be. |

Sonnet X is good if you are using sonnet equipment, especially the ata cards. |

Thats a really good question, I am currently using XPF with a Sonnet G4 800 card, I was wonderinf if the performance would increase. System is stable but could use a little more speed. Gabby |
