The wake options are not available on my PowerCenter Pro w/Sonnet G4 800. "Wake when the modem detects a ring" and "Wake for network administrative access" don't show up in Energy Saver under O.S. 10.2.6. I can no longer do unattended backup via built in Ethernet. Any suggestions?. They were available under 10.1.5 but Apple says not supported, see Apple article below. http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106790 "Wake when the modem detects a ring" This allows the computer to wake from sleep when the modem detects a ring. You may want to use this feature if you receive faxes regularly but want to allow your computer to sleep in order to conserve energy. Available on these computers: * Power Mac G4 (AGP Graphics) or later * Power Mac G4 Cube (all models) * PowerBook (FireWire) or later * iBook (all models) * iMac (Slot Loading) or later "Wake for network administrative access" Also known as "Wake-on-LAN," this allows network administrators and certain applications to wake the computer from sleep by sending it a special type of network packet. Available on these computers: * Power Mac G4 (Gigabit Ethernet) or later * Power Mac G4 Cube (all models) * PowerBook (FireWire) or later * iBook (all models) * iMac (Early 2001) or later "Restart automatically after a power failure" This allows your computer to automatically restart after shutting down unexpectedly, usually as the result of a power outage. Available on these computers: * Power Mac G4 (AGP Graphics) or later * Power Mac G4 Cube (all models) * PowerBook (FireWire) or later * iBook (all models) * iMac (Slot Loading) or later |

Da, I just remembered that when I installed 10.1.5 the Sonnet software would't work and XPF didn't support my PowerCenter Pro. So I put a SCSI card and drive in my Dual Processor 800. Installed the OS 10 and put the drive back in the PCP, it worked with a little fiddling. I would email the details if anyone is interested. They aren't on the computer I'm using right now. Wake options were available and worked without a hitch. |

Ryan Rempel (OSXGURU) pointed out in an old document along with an earlier version of XPF that sleep and drive sleep are both inop on ANY legacy system. This is especially true of older Powerbooks which rely on these features for power savings. On my Kanga, I have totally disabled the entire Energy Saver functions until Ryan gives us the all clear. The basic functions will corrupt file structure, and that is why we can't use it yet. Until Ryan gives us some help with this, I'm going to play it safe and leave this stuff alone. His wife uses a Kanga, so there is some pressure to fix many parts of the Energy Saver and Modem and other things that remain unusable . Time will out!!! I hope . |

I know what you are talking about.. It appears to be a limitation of Mac OS X. Same deal here- Anything really Power related works just fine (Wakeup, Shutdown at specific times) under MOS9.1, but not under Mac OS X. Maybe XPF 3.0 will fix these problems (as well as some severe sleep issues). |
