Beige G3 OWC G4 ZIF won't dual boot |

After install hassles with Jag and the OWV G4 (needed to reinstall the original G3 and use XPF to install OSX) OSX booted fine, but then I couldn't get back into OS9.2 to get the cache info for the L2cache software. I finally got into 9.2 by using the 9.2 install CD, but now cannot get back into OS X. I tried using the OS9.2 disk switching program, as well as XPF. What happens is that the bong happens, then a black screen and silence for about 15 sec, the a reboot (new bong) and OS9 reboots. Am I really going to need to always change processors if I want to switch between OS's? Sheesh! At least I need to get back into OS X, which is why I got the G4 upgrade. |

Any tricks for getting a CD-rom drive to startup with the OS x CD. I checked to maker sure that the CD rom was on master and I tried resetting th epram manually just before restarting to the CD by depressing 'C'. No luck. I have a sonnet trio. Do you think running the cd-rom of this would help. Thanks. |

I have had the same setup but zero trouble. You have to use something else than XLR8's L2 cache which doesn't get along, even in Classic. Sonnet Tune-Up is free and easy to use. G4/500 MT Beige, 768MB PC100 CAS2 Crucial, Radeon Mac, ATTO UL2D, IBM 120GXP 60GB. I don't even use XPF or anything but I did at one point try, and tried older System Disk 3.3.1 etc. I use Apple's, 9.2.5. I also think the new ATA drive is somehow better, along with doing the open firmware reset: init-nvram set-defaults reset-all The last command should reboot. |

Anyonwe have luck with an XLR8 g4 500 on a beige 266 MT rev A. I can't even get to the boot CD stage. I have tried Xpostfacto also. Everything is stock except a radeon card that is sittting there doing nothing at the moment. 768 mb of ram running OS 9.22 on the g4 using speed control 2.61. |

I use XPF to select my startup disk from OS9.1. Work great! Verbose mode seems to actually allow my system to boot more reliably also, or else I see the Gray apple and the pinwheel forever... Seems like it might be some kind of timing issue at startup? Marty |

SDCP 9.2.5 works for me on native IDE (Beige Rev A MT). Even more so after running Disk Warrior maybe. I use to resort and tried using System Disk 3.3.1 and the older 2.x series. Should have to. 9.2.5 is on the Jag CD in Utilities. |

Boot to X & 9 |

I was reinstalling and reinstalling X untill I found out here that I need to use the old Apple System disk 2.6.2 from -99 to get back to X, and Startup disk does not work at all. Do a search on Apple knowledge base and don't mind the Apple read-me saying that it is only intended for X Server. (Couldn't get the XPF to boot for me either.) (G3 MT AV -> OWC G4/450, 10.2.6/9.2.2) Anyone know how to make the sound in AND out (+ probably video in/out too) to work with Mini Tower AV? - none of these work for me, only the internal speaker. |

OK, I solved the problem by using the startup disk utility of a booted OS 8.6 disk. However, it might have been working before, and I didn't know it as I have a Viewsonic A75s multisync monitor attached through a switch settable video adapter. The switch settings might have been wrong and not allowed me to see 832x624 75 hz resolution? (I had changed it initially so that I could see 1024x768) |

I forgot to mention that I have OS X.2.3 on the first partition (8gb) and OS 9.2 on the third partition. (second partition will be used for swap) |
