Hi, I have a Sonnet 500Mhz 1MB cache card. Sonnet says to take out the extra 1MB cache card that comes with the PowerComputing computer once you install their card but when I am in OS X my computer CRAWLS. It is sooooooooo slow. When I plug back in the PowerComputer Cache card that came with the computer and also the Sonnet Card my computer is VERY fast. It's hard to believe. Can anyone tell me if they have had this same thing happen to them within OS X or is this just a strange thing with my computer? I have experimented over and over again with different applications from within OS X and I know I'm not imagining this. I'm definitely going to leave the original Cache card in because it makes a huge difference and I wonder if putting in a larger Cache card like 2MB would make a bigger difference. Any comments on this? Thanks, Xander Lago |

Rsouder4, I had no idea the L2CacheConfig was on this site also... Stupid Me... Anyway, I installed this program and it works GREAT!!! Thanks for the info... Now this computer is BLAZING FAST...! Although, when I go into the System Profiler, it still says "Ok" as the amount of cache, but I still notice a big difference. Xander |

Do the OS X install with XPostfacto, once you have it ok, run the Sonnet tuneup software inside of OS X, not the Sonnet X installer, and it should enable your cache ok. You may have to run Disk First Aid to fix permissions afterwards. Works fine for me. |

Hi, My card doesn't have an L3 Cache. I have the Sonnet G3 500Mhz card which has only L2 Cache. Unless I am wrong about this. Rsouder4, What is L2 Cache Config??? Is this a program I can install in OS X? Everytime I install the Sonnet Tuneup or Use the Sonnet X installer my computer becomes unbootable and I have to start from Ground ZERO. So I'm pretty much over the Sonnet Software. Their Hardware is Excellent but until they can have better phone support and better information on their website about thier software I"m not going near it again. I'll do some research on the L2 Cache Config and see what I come up with but I'm so sacred to install any of this other stuff on my machine because it's running perfect with NO crashes for the first time ever since I have been using Macs since 1994 and the speed is the same as what I was getting in OS 9. I also have a computer at home with Windows 2000 Advanced Server that I use more often than this Mac and even though my Mac isn't as fast as it, it''s not too far behind so I'm not complaining. I only wanted this computer for Web Development so it serves its purpose for right now. |

Use Sonnet's Tune-Up installer (not the same as OS X installer). This will enable the L3 cache on the Sonnet card. You can then remove the original 1MB cache. |

Sounds like the cache on your sonnet card isn't getting enabled. Normally, it should most definately be faster than the cache on your motherboard. Did you install L2 cache config or sonnet's cache enabler??? |
