If the fantastic rumors - said to be leaked out of Apple by mistake - turn out to be true, I'm going to forget completely trying to run any OSX on my 9600. I'll get a loan and buy one of those new beasts |

My 9600 runs X 10.2.6 very well with a Sonnet 800MHz CPU card. My 8600 with a Powerlogix G4/450 card also runs 10.2.6 at an acceptable speed. But, like cars, I never buy the first offering of a new model year. Awaiting MacWorld SF sounds like a good plan. Another good plan is to see if Ryan can get Panther and XPF working together. --Dwight |

I bought a PC ATX Power Supply. It should work without any problems, or so I've read. You can get parts like this on ebay. I bought a spare logic board last year for $60. Allmac.com is a source for parts too. They are a little pricey though. I got a 350W power supply to replace my existing one because I think my Voodoo 5 card damaged it the last time I had it installed. I could smell burning insulation and the machine would not start up. Also, the machine has been just shutting off for no reason if it is left unattended. The last time it cut off I was using it. Until then I was not sure what was happening and my wife said she was not turning it off. |

Yes, this is exactly what I've been waiting for. And I'm glad I waited despite all of the naysaying and negativaty you here when people in those other forums say you should not waste your money upgrading when you can buy the latest and greatest now. To all those that bought the previous G4 models all I have to say is Suckerrrrr! To Apple all I have to say it's about time and what were you waiting for? Well the last point is obvious now. My guess is that this transition has been in the works for a long time. Long before any public info on the PPC970 was available. Why else would Apple have stuck with Motorola this long if they knew something better was on the way. Apparently also hedgeing their bets with the Intel build of OSX. Well done! Now all of the architectural bottlenecks in the Apple platform are gone and we no longer have to listen to PC doomsayers when we can point to a system that is more than the equal of the top of the line PC. I'm still going to wait till after January to buy though. I just bought a new 400 Watt power supply for my Power Tower Pro so I need to get my $50 worth out of it. |

Marcush, Well, the threshold of temptation has been crossed this afternoon. Just take a look at the aluminum beauty J. Ive's has designed at Apple.com, and the tech specs are fantastic! Nevertheless, like you, I will wait - if for no other reason than a better mouse and keyboard, not yet announced. Apple can't be shipping that G5 marvel with the old Pro Mouse and Keyboard in August. But I want one, badly! Tom |

I'll wait till at least Macworld SF. I live in San Francisco and go to the show every year. If possible I will wait till next summer depending on the speculation on where the platform will be. If Panther turns out to run well on my PTP pro I may feel I can wait longer. I can buy a new machine now with money saved but nothing has arrived yet to make me cross the threshold of temptation. In the meantime, I'll keep on saving. |

Actually my PTP works good enough under 10.2.3, enough not to buy a new Mac yet |

dschultz1: but that is BOUND to happen. It happens all the time and also in WINTEL's camp. The only exception I can think of are our PowerMac's PCI machines that are now running 10.2. I intend to believe they will also run 10.3 with the help of our Gurus but at the same time am convinced that only 970 owners and above will really ENJOY 10.3 and get the most out of it |

I love my PTP, and I will keep it for as long as i can, and use it as a server. |

I'm tempted to do the same, except for the rumors about the PPC 980 processor that may be out by this time next year with speeds from 4 to 6 GHz. I'd hate to by the top of the line machine just to have it surpassed in less than a year. |
