Could anyone be kind enough to provide me with a step by step install guide to install a Sonnet G4/800 on a 7600 with 2 SCSI drives, an original Apple CD-Rom, and a ATI 7000, 384MB RAM I could really use a hand I had OS X on one of the drives previously, but after running OS 9.2.2 for a couple of months, I could not reboot into OS X. Tried to reinstall to no avail. I progress through the install and it freezes during the writing of the Core services to the target drive. JP |

Gentlemen- Thanks a ton! It was the damn ATI 7000 that has caused all of the install problems. Is anyone using it after the install? Is is stable? Another quiestion, is anyone using a Sonnet ATA 133 card in a 7600? If so, how and where are you having the cable cross into the HD area? Over the top of the divider? I was thinking of cutting a thin slit in the dividing wall to allow the cable to pass through. What do you think? Thanks again Joe |

i would suggest using onboard vid, set it to the lowest possible setting, aka ?? 640x480??... I had probs on my 7600, and once i did this, i seemed to get it to work... wired, but hell, it worked... Also, i would make sure u drive is 8Gb or smaller, well, it can be bigger, but you want the x partition to be smaller then 8Gb, and in the first part of the disk.. And it is a good idea to format using Apples disk utility.. It wouldn't budge till i reformated with that. I first was using FWB, which i thought was a superior product, but apple seems to like there own products. Good Luck! -dc |

Have you tried using the onboard video instead of the 7000. I have an 8500 and have used only the onboard with no problems. I have read somewhere that the 7000 is a little picky in the install process but fine after. just a thought. Jim |

Make sure your drive is formatted with the drive setup from OS 9.1. Make sure your drive is good? If it is SCSI make sure it properly terminated. OSX is pickier about termination the OS9 was. Marty |

I have continued to try to install OS X to this machine and failure every time. I am using original OS X.2 install disks with XPF 2.2.5 and 2.2.4. I am consistantly getting to the install screen and as the install gets to the par where it is writing the Base System, it freezes. I have tried different PCI slots, removed all but the ATI 7000, and interleaveed and de-interleaved the RAM, tried on different HD's different SCSI busses to no avail. Why would it keep freezing in the same place? |
