Hello there, I have a PM 7300 with a PowerLogix G3 400MHz upgrade, 288MB of RAM. I've read the posts about bad CD-ROMs -- they described scenarios similar to the problems I've been having. I tried copying the OS X install CD to one of my hard-drive partitions with Disk Copy and Apple Software Restore. Whether I install from the CD-ROM or the hard drive partition, I keep getting the same result. Here are the last few lines of the installer log before the installer quits: kCGErrorFailure : CGS New Connection cannot connect to server kCGErrorInvalidConnection : CGSGetEvenPort : Invalid Connection Install has unexpectedly quit (error 1) From there I can restart the machine and hold the option key down to boot up OS 9.1. I was overclocking my CPU, which I've stopped doing to see if that was causing the problem. No dice. I pulled out my USB card. No dice. I de-interleaved my RAM. No dice. I rearranged my SCSI chain so the external hard drive I'm installing to connects directly to the computer. No dice. Anybody have any suggestions? I'm at the point of consternation here.... |

OSX is less tolerant of flakey memory you might try switching out one DIMM at a time and be sure you don't have any old slow 8 meg DIMMs Jim |

I used OS 9.1 Drive Setup to format the drive. The CD copied successfully to the HD partition. Once I made the partition a bootable volume, I attempted to do the install both from the hard drive and from the OS X 10.1 install CD. In both cases, I still get the same error message. Could it be my RAM? I find that I occasionally have to contend with Type 1 and Type 2 errors during normal use of OS 9.1. These are memory bus errors, correct? Does this imply a memory problem, and is it the same type of error the OS X installer is returning? |

what app did you use to format your drive. it has to be either OS 9.1 Drive Setup, or Hard Drive SpeedTools. Does the CD fail to copy when you copy it to the HD partition? If will not I would suspect your CD drive. |
