Hello, I'm trying to install 10.2 on a PM7500 with a G3/400 card, on a drive attached to an Adaptec 3940UW. This setup boots OS 9 with no trouble, but when restarting the system with XPF 2.2.5, OpenBoot complains about not being able to open the device, then the system starts up in OS 9. As I've had 10.2 on this machine before but installed on the internal SCSI bus, I'm assuming this is a problem with the Adaptec card. Has anyone run into similar problems? |

Actually I recommend the UW SCSI options myself. 1) ATTO express pci PSC (this was OEM in beige G3), it's only UW but very relable for me, and no measureable speed difference to U2W/U160 IME (single drives). 2) Adaptec 29160N pricier, but boots both 9 and OSX. Supports U160 speeds. 3) ATTO UL2D this card has problems with some firmware versions/operating systems, but mine with 1.43F runs well in OSX and 9.1 The ATA cards I have has (Ultratek VST 66,Acard 66,Acard 133) all have seemed a bit shakier then SCSI to me. More boot failures, and strange startup glitches. Marty |

Thanks. I've been looking through the back threads, but as others have mentioned, they're not the easiest thing to navigate. Some of the netbsd-macppc documentation seems to imply that this card won't be bootable, as it doesn't have the word 'open' available in OpenBoot. I guess I may start shopping around for an ATA card soon. |

I don't think the 3940UW is bootbale under OSX on old world macs. The 2940UW definitely isn't Read the other adaptec/SCSI threads for more info. Marty |
