I just acquired 2 Firewire drives both are oxford and are 120g. Since adding the second drive I have found that the drives do not mount as before, is due to the PCI Card? I also Have a "i-Link" SONY Spressa 12X CD Burner. Also is there a way to stop the drives from sleeping I have turned off this "feature" off in the energy saver but the FW drives still spin down after 5 min. Any help would be greatly apprecited... Thanks.. Jim |

nope, just type it (hit enter) then you will see "password" on the next line, type the admin password and hit enter. You will notice that you do not see any kind of markings at all when you type it in, that is normal. |

Does your FW hard drive awakes from sleep anyway? MY USB-2 hard drive seems to "sleep" after a while and does not wakes up again, need to power down & up to bring it back. |

MAc Addict is a god mag. sudo pmset -c spindown 60 the 60 is how many min before spindown, there is no command to kill it all together, so putting an hour should work. (system default is 10min) |

Powederhaus and all, Well, I daisy chained my drives and resulted in same problem, I put the 2 drives and CDR all seperate and all on one PCI Card. It seems to have solved the problem removing the Firewire hub I had attached to the last firewire port. I think Slowing down the startup may help to recogonize/mount the drives. I have a 9600 and believe that I have 2 PCI Buses. My current setup is:PCI slots 1-6. 1 being on top and 6 is the bottom slot. 1-Keyspan Firewire 2-USB Keyspan 3-empty 4-empty, (Maybe additional installed: Unibrain Firewire Card) 5-empty, (Maybe additional installed: Keyspan USB Card) 6-ATi Rage 128 card Will let you know if slowing down startup solves this issue.. *********Also any Mac-Addict subscribers last subscription had a command code for disabling Firewire/Hard drive sleep. If any one has this issue, please share this code located in Bug repair/fixes.********** |

First, Yes daisy chain the CD burner, i have only a CDRW and a Hard Drive and i was getting these problems all the time until i put them together. Unless the your computer has 2 PCI buses (i have no idea if it does, i know my clone does but the second bus does not work in OSX for me, someone else should know if you don't) then the extra firewire card would be almost pointless, i say this because i don't think it is the firewire card that is getting overloaded but you PCI bus. I can't say that it will not fix the problem because it may but it seems unlikely. I had to change the Home directory because my boot drive is about 2 or 3 GB so i could not install anything at all, even security updates. If you have a small boot drive then and would like to change the directory then tell me and i will tell you how, it is easier than it may seem... its easier to do than to type :) and i am a bit busy at the moment. Powerhaus.... Very Interesting.. I too have daisy chained my drives, but still have the same problem. All together I have 2 drives and a CD burner all going to one Card. Should I daisy chain the Burner also? I am worried about buring CD and causing heavt traffic overruns, if that is possible. I just purchased a new unibrain Card on ebay and plan on installing that as a second card. Where would that be the best slot for this card. I own a 9600. Slot one Firewire Card slot two USB Card Bottom Ati Card As for the directory how is this an improvment to move to firewire? How did you do this and what benefits can you achieve. I am rather new to X... Thank you, Jim |

I had the same problems and i have found that it is a problem with the PCI card/Bus. i think the 2 drive are overloading the bus when they are plugged in independently and i have gotten all of my mounting problems to disappear by daisy-chaining my 2 Firewire drive together. sense then i have been able to move my home directory from my slow and small scsi drive to my big fast firewire drive and i never have anymore non/dismounting issues. can say about spin down. |

I get the same behavior but don't know of a fix either. I only use my firewire drives for backup anyway so it is not an issue for me. |
