I have a Power Center Pro 210 with a Crescendo PCI G4 700 MHz upgrade card and I used XPF to install 10.2.6 on it. I am also using a ATI Radeon 7000 video card. The only problem I am having is that I had to boot into single user mode, delete the Extensions cache and also rename the AppleOnboardSound.kext extension to disable the sound driver because any time OS X wanted to play a sound, the machine would hard freeze. I would really like to get sound working. Does anyone have any ideas here? I've seen some posts about sound stopping working after a little while but nothing about a hard freeze. Can I use a 10.1 AppleOnboard sound driver with 10.2? Is there any way to patch the onboard sound driver to work? Thanks for the help, Jeff |

Is it a kernel panic or just a freeze? I remember getting kernel panics on a 733 G4 using a Jaguar beta install but you're problem is probably different... I don't think you can use 10.1 apple onboard sound driver with 10.2 but you never really know until you try it. You can use a program like Pacifist to reinstall the single extension if things don't work out. There is a way to patch the sound driver. You have to download the Darwin source code for the driver, find the bug, fix it and recompile. Finding the bug is going to be the hard part. It may not even be in the driver especially if other people with the some computer are not having the same problem. Have you tried reinstalling OS X? Maybe you can try a different install CD? |
