I have a pm7300 that I slapped a g3 450 and would like to take it to jag after a few hardware upgrades, but before I do, there is one annoyning thing that happens sporadically on it. Right now it has just ONE 128 stick EDO new, on-board vid, stock 4 gig, zip, cd. Not good enough for X yet....BTW, this also happens with the old proc. I got rid of the cache chip before I put the sonnet chip in, and have tried other RAM, same issue. It is running 9.1 and I had 9.2.2, same prob in both OS's. The machine gives an error 10 when I try to close the sys prof. I can open it, read all tabs, as I try to close it, BOMB. It doesn't happen all the time. I know an error 10 is a line 1111? error from the machine ROM, but haven't seen anything on getting rid of it, or what is causing it to happening. Right now there is just the OS, minimal extensions, etc, with all other OS stuff, it is fine. All hardware is okay. The one clue I get is sys prof tells me it determine which scsi bus the drive is on (first page of sys prof) The second page of sys prof correctly shows the hardware matrix, ID'ing the drive on bus 0 with the other hardware. I tried the other scsi bus, same prob. Tried running with just the HD on the bus(terminated), same prob. I tried disk warrior, norton, reinstalling the OS, etc. I want to stabilise this issue BEFORE I take it to jag, but am out of ideas....any thoughts????? |

I tried the Pram zap, and rebuilding the desktop....same thing. my next try would be to swap the scsi connector to the other bus, so at least I know I am on the right track....thanks |

that should not crash you computer. But it seems like it is a problem with your hard drive... some how. it is verry strange, put the drive on a different connector in the scsi chain. You say the error is from the machine rom, try zapping the PRAM (start up with "cmd option pr" held down and hold it for 3 chimes. |
