trouble upgrading to 10.2 |

i have a powermac 7500 with a sonnet G3 upgrade card, sonnet UDMA-to-SCSI card, and sonnet usb/firewire card. previously i had used unsupported utilit X and gotten 10.1 installed now i am attempting the 10.2 upgrade. I got one of the 12-speed apple CD-ROMs on special from OWC. It shows up as a matsushita 8012 in OS 9 system profiler. the latest xpostfacto (2.2.5 i think) boots into OS X, complains about a few things, then says 'devfs on /dev' and churns for a good while spitting out these messages: "SAM Multimedia: READ or WRITE failed, ASC=0x29, ASCQ=0x00" interspersed with an occasional "disk1s0s9: I/O error" Then mach_init starts, it says 'root device mounted read-only," then "filesystem checks skipped" then it says "automatic reboot in progress" and just sits there until I hit the power. Maybe i should just switch back to the old plextor plex-writer that I had been using as my CD before getting the apple 12-speed. I purchased two of these 12-speeds, putting one on a sun ultra 1 I have, and it did complain a few times about 'scsi timeouts'. Are these refurb 12-speeds from OWC just flaky? Dave |

well, switching out the "new" apple 12-speed and switching back the old plex writer CD got things working smoothly. no I/O errors like last time, and booted into the GUI after the 'devfs on /dev' bit. i wonder if there is something wrong with those apple 12 speeds from OWC. The fact that I got somewhat flaky behavior with 2 drives on 2 systems (a MAC and a SUN) makes me suspicious of them. dave |
