Jag works fine but I can't restart into 9.1 |

I've "successfully" managed to install Jaguar and it works now but I can't restart into 9 whatever I do. Here's what I've done the last 24-36 hours: 1. When I first started the Mac today in launched into 9.1. I had problems from yesterday with launching into Jag(didn´t work at all) so I tried a couple of different things with XPostFacto. 2. The last thing I did before everything went straight to hell was to deselect the "auto - boot" option in XPF without selecting any inputdevice. When I restarted(Verbose) after that it wasn´t posible to neither start Jag or 9. 3. In my atempts to make my Mac return from the dark I even replaced one of my drives with an original SCSI-drive and tried to restart from that with no effect what so ever. 4. My final desperate atempt to get a working Mac was to disconnect the Mac and take out the Pram-battery for about 30-40 minutes. 5. After I´d put the battery back in again and restarted the Mac in automaticly launched Jaguar. 6. I've tried pressing CTRL+CMD(+CMD)+SHIFT+DEL upon restart but the only thing that does is to launch Jaguar into protected mode if I keep holding it. 7. After reading the XPF-support forums I tried to zap the pram from both a resart from X and a coldboot but the Mac still automaticly launches into Jaguar. I guess that somehow my System 9 systemfolder must have become deblessed since it isn´t posible to restart into 9. Maybee it'll work if I disconnect the drive with Jaguar. FYI: Jaguar and 9.1 are installed on different drives and the Jaguar-drive is set as slave. About my Mac: PM7600 w. G3/500/1Mb @ 520, 656 Mb Ram, Radeon7000, Usb, 30+80 Gb IDE-ATA, LG CDRW, OS: 9.1 & Jaguar |

I've just tried something new that seems to work (knock on wood). The drive with X used to be set and connected as slave on the same ata-bus as the drive with 9(master). I've now changed that so that the X-drive is slave under the CD on the other ata-bus instead and it seems to work. When I restarted the mac after that reorganisation it launched into Jag and when I choosed the OS9-disk as startupdisk and restarted (without pressing down any keys) it launched into 9. After that operation I used XPF to restart into X and that's where I am now. I got to get new IDE-cables though, these "old" flat ones are so difficult to bend and stretch around corners. I've seen round cables and I'm going to get those. To make it posible to connect everything the way I've described I had to put the X-drive(30 Gig) in the lower compartment and then stretch the ata-cable over to the cd and connect it. |

In your first post, you mentioned that you were holding down CTRL+CMD(+CMD)+SHIFT+DEL This is not the correct key combination to force the Mac to boot from another drive or partition. Try holding down the Command, Option, Shift and Delete keys only until the monitor first comes on with a blank gray screen and then release the keys. This allows me to boot into 9 whenever I need to. |

I assume you are not using a USB keyboard. This will not work. Since I am usually using a USB keyboard these days, I just open System Preferences in OS X and select the OS 9 drive in the Startup Disk preference. This boots my Mac into 9 until I decide to use XPF to boot back into X. Good Luck Ed |

I tried the harddrive thing and disconnected the OSX drive and restarted. I had no problems in launching 9 so when I was in there I fixed the configfile for the L2Configapp so X is snappier now but the problem remains the same. Whatever I do, whatever keycombo I use I can't relaunch/launch into 9 as long as the drive with X still is connected. It's got to be an easier way to fix this than to have to disconnect a drive everytime I'll have to boot into 9. If not I'll guess I'll have to live with it 'cause most of my life is still running under 9. |
