10.2.8 Running Smoothly So Far... |

I have started a complete rebuild of my system, and as far as I can tell, 10.2.8 is running like a champ with XPF 3.0.0a3. Nothing horrible to report yet, although if anything crops up, I'll definitely post it. My config: PM9500, 784 MB RAM, 12x Matsushita SCSI CD-ROM (Apple OEM), (3) 120 GB Samsung ATA HDs, flashed PC Radeon 7000 card, SIIG ATA/133 card, OWC FireWire, SIIG USB, (2) Znyx NetBlaster ZX345 10/100 NICs |

Hi folks, I found the reason why they pulled the update: "After updating Mac OS X or Mac OS X Server to version 10.2.8, you may not be able to connect to the Internet or your network. This only affects some computers using a 10Base-T Ethernet connection.". "Apple has removed Mac OS X 10.2.8 until an update that resolves this issue can be made available. This update should be available soon, and this document will be updated at that time." In other words, if you have installed 10.2.8 and your network connection is still working (as is the case for me) then there is no reason to worry. All the best, Jonck |

I got a crash with the USB hard drive, and OS X 10.2.8 seems to be slower than 10.2.6. Thank God it was on a test OS install on a safe partition. |

Just tried to get the standalone installer, got a 404 error......Found this on on the news boards, perhaps they pulled the standalone too, oh well, I will keep trying... Apple Pulls Mac OS X 10.2.8 Software Updater Approved/Edited by arn on Tuesday September 23, 2003 05:37 PM from the news dept. For users who have not yet upgraded, the Mac OS X 10.2.8 Update no longer appears in Software Update. While the majority of users who applied the update have done fine... there are multiple reports of problems -- including users' losing network connections (potential fix) and others are having boot problems on their iMacs/eMacs. Standalone updaters are still available for download, but users should proceed with caution until Apple reposts 10.2.8 in their Software Update control panel. |

I copied my 10.2.6 OSX to a test partition with Carbon Copy Cloner, then installed the 10.2.8 update via Software Update. Couldn't tell the difference so far, except for the fact that general tasjs slowed down in a significant way. I'm now reapiring permissions, updating prebinidng info, etc, etc, to see what happens. - hey Jim - ahem, Mr. Seibyl - how was honeymoon? ;-) |

email me if the 9500 goes up... Anybody out there run xbench on 10.2.8 vs 10.2.6 yet??? I am slightly hesitant as my ride is running smooth. ALSO, any improvements in the audio?? I have a PM 9500, and am curious if 10.2.8 addresses the audio in issue. Probally not, but I can be hopeful...... |

Still running well for me, although it hasn't been subjected to heavy use. I'll have to throw my generic USB 2.0 card in and see if it is all-out EHCI compliant, although not like I have any USB 2.0 devices anyways. As much fun as it all this is, I'm thinking of buying a dual-processor MDD G4 tower sometime soon. *HERESY* I know, but if anyone is looking into a PM9500 with some upgrades in the next month or two, post something and I'll email ya. |

It's released today. Check your S/W Update panel and/or Macupdate.com. Thanks, Ian. Keep us posted on your system. I usually wait a couple of days before upgrading. --Dwight |

So, let's wait for Apple official update... I wouldn't install a beta seed. My system is working well now! I use to say, "if it's not broken, don't fix it!" |

From www.macosrumors.com: 10.2.8 almost ready: According to developer sources, the final test build of Mac OS X 10.2.8 has been seeded. There are no major changes compared to 10.2.7 other than bug fixes and updated Bluetooth code to support Apple's new wireless mouse and keyboard -- but for 10.2.6 users, there should be a mild but noticeable speed boost along with the bug fixes and support for Firewire 800, USB2, etc.... If everything goes according to plan, reliable contacts in Cupertino say to expect 10.2.8 to show up in Software Update in about 10 days' time. |

Believe me most of us don't want to run these alpha and beta Mac OS update seeds. There is good reason for Apple not to make them available to the public until the bugs are worked out ;-) You may get lucky or youi may get one which means endless work to get things running again. Daystartechnology.com which bought XLR8 willbe happy to sell a new XLR8 upgrade to anyone who wants one ! |

Oh, c'mon... this update is not even mentioned at Apple site, nor Software Update can find anything above 10.2.6. Ok, assuming you are indeed running a 10.2.8 system - I'm not really doubting of your word, but you have to agree that no official site whatsoever providing such update for download - would you please make an effort to remember and tell us mere mortals where can one download this update? Where did you learn about this 10.2.7 - 10.2.8 incompatibility?? :-0 |

It exists, but I can't really say where I got it. 10.2.8 looks to be for general consumption, and not for machines that shipped with 10.2.7. If you're running 10.2.6, you'll be able to run 10.2.8, if you're running 10.2.7 then you're stuck at 10.2.7. Kinda reminds me of the whole System 7.5.2 fiasco, actually. Also, I forgot to mention that the 9500 is running a 300 MHz G3 ZIF card on an XLR8 MachCarrier ZIF thingamajig (they're out of business, so it doesn't really matter, does it? :) |

I don't think so |

The G5 is being delivered with 10.2.7, and the most recent version for pre-G5s is 10.2.6. I believe you've specified that-which-does-not-exist. |
