Don't seem to be any upgrade's coming down for pre-G3 Mac's of late. A visit to Sonnettect.com shows only 3 CPU upgrade cards for PCI mac's. ATI seems to have left us with the Radeon 7000 pci as the last video upgrade as well. That could change as the 7000pci MAC is thier best seller in MAC card's. You'd think it would be something AGP ,but it is not. This info comes from a interview with Stan Ossias, senior product manager at ATI, can be found here.....::::::: http://www.macradio.com/monday/ Gamesome_Mac_2003_06_23.html ...........::::::::::::: Mybe when it is not selling anymore they will bess us with a 9000 type pci card. The Firmtech SATA PCI card needs PCI 2.2 and no PreG3 has 2.2. OWC lists the card a compatable,But is it bootable? |

The reason ATI doesn't sell a lot of AGP cards on the mac side is because most users are content with their OEM AGP cards, and have no need to upgrade. Unlike the PC market where there's a constant need to Feed the Joneses, the Mac market on the AGP side, gamers aside, is rather stagnant. ATI *should* have made more R7200s. All the 7000s make me sick. I'm glad I have an R7200. - Chibi Delennâ„¢ |

The "No Mac's Left Behind" was a spoof piece. I read it too they had solutions all the way back to the LC's I caught on a little before that. It was well written and really well thought out but I don't remember where I saw it. |

Never happen, but....................... I'd like to see it. They'd have to sell new Powersupply's too. It would make loads of $$$$ for AASP's ,but Apple would lose $. Too much R&D,too many mac's ,too many lost sales on G5's. We could put G4 AGP boards in our mac's :-) it's cheaper. But then what would we do for FUN!....::::http:// www.xlr8yourmac.com/systems/g4_agp_in_9600_case/G4_Project_Parts.html |

It's great FUN! It's in one edition of the "Rumor Mill" column (by Anne Onymous) on LowEndMac. Look here: http://www.lowendmac.com/rumormill/03/0623.html Really worth a look (nicely made up), but not to be taken tooooo serious... Mike |

I heard a real out there rumor.... not sure where on macrumors.com it is but check this... Apple is consdering a "no mac left behind" upgrade policy where they will offer upgrade kits to the g5 for "old world" machines. So you get the mobo (to fit in a 8500, OR 9500, OR 7300, or other old mac) and proc ~ $700, and the board is supposed to have scsi connectors on it so us scsi folks aren't SOL with all our current stuff. the faster RAM NOT included. NOTE-I can't substantiate this, just passing on the stuff that I hear in my travels. It is allegedly aimed at the education market, as there are still a lot of old world machines in that market. The idea of a g5 logic board w/scsi connsctor on it is a really cool idea, I hope it comes to reality, BUT I am not betting my 9500 on it. |
