Wow! What can I say? You guys are superstars! I went through the experience of upgrading my "steam engine PM7600" to OS 9.2.2 using OS9forever and decided to give OS X a go. I did exactly as I was told. I loaded a "full retail" of OS X 10.2.4 into the CD Rom player, clicked on OSXPostfacto and watched it all unravel! Then I updraded my OS X to 10.2.8!!! It took a long time but eventually my old "steam engine" was running OS X Jaguar! Two problems I encountered were firstly, when I tried to upgrade my cache to L2, by loading "GrabL2CacheSetting" I got the message that the application had quit because of a type 7 error. So I was unable to upgrade my cache to L2. Secondly, as expected, I was unable to load OS X onto my 120Gb FireWire external drive because it wasn't bootable. I really do hope you can solve this one because a PCI FireWire card and a FireWire external enclosure would make all the difference. Of all the benefits that OS X would provide being able to boot up from a FireWire drive would easily be the best. Terry Allen |

What is your processor, and who makes it, g3 or g4, speed?? Also, depending on the drive you might be able to have it bootable, with the "helper disk" function of XPF 3. We can get there later, lets figure the cache issue first... In ASP(apple system profiler) is the info about your L2 cache correct??? This BTW is the fast memory on your proc card that works with your proc. There are other utilities that can help enable your cache memory....without it your machine WILL be SLOW. There are other alternatives to enable your L2 cache.... http://www.sonnettech.com/downloads/osx_upgrade_sw.html Some stuff here, not very tweakable but fairly simple http://www.powerlogix.com/downloads/index.html#cpu Generally the geeks choice for software..... BEFORE you start downloading and installing stuff, let us know what your proc is and we can go from there. Jim |
