Trying to install OS X. Verbose mode. Throttle at 24. PTPro, 280 ram, G4 700 Sonnet, ATI 7000, all drives on slow bus. Installer quits after I get "kCGSErrorFailure" messages saying "connot connect to server." Suggestions? |

I have the same problem with my PTPro, 384M RAM, G4 800, and ATI 7000. I'm using the iMac 10.1 install CD I bought from OtherWorld a while back. Is 10.1.5 needed for this config, and if so, what do I do now? I don't have another video card right now; the ATI replaced an IMS TwinTurbo that went belly up a few months ago. |

Yes, that will be it--the 7000 needs 10.1.5, in fact. |

I think I will take out the ATI 7000. My prior install was done using an ATI Mach64. Plus I just read that the 7000 needs 10.1, so maybe that's an issue. |

I suppose that it is possible that there is something wrong the CD. At least, it is one possibility. |

Hmm. Googling "kCGSErrorFailure" suggests that it has something to do with the WindowServer--that is, it is a graphics / video related problem of some kind. Ordinarily, I woud suggest deleting some video-related preference files, but seeing as this is the Install CD ... |

just before the kCGSErrorFailure, i see "/etc/master.passwd: Permission denied. Then I get: "kCGSErrorFailure: CGSNewConnection cannot connect to server" a few times... Then "kCGSErrorInvalidConnection : CGSGetEvenPort : Invalid connection" Then "The Installer has unexpectedly quit. (error 1) |
