It will be interesting to see when they release the new Darwin sources.. or whatever they are going to release in source form. That is, I guess the deal breaker for Ryan to date. Marty |

Just went to a mac/adobe seminar yesterday. The Apple rep did an optional review of Panther after the "main" seminar was over. It does not look to different than jag, a few nifty eye candy things and some interesting security stuff, like zero'ing a file that you trash, so it IS REALLY trashed. Apparently the US gov wanted that in the OS to meet their security standards..... They had a G5 there....WOW, what a machine. The guts are EASY to get into, drives all serial ATA (held in place by 4 screws, the screws are on the drive where the bracket would normally go....but they slide into a mounting channel so they can EASILY be removed without any tools. The super drive is still IDE, only one connector on the board, not sure if the connector supports more than one device or not. The RAM is done in pairs again, the thing has about 5 cooing fans, but is really quiet. The heat sink is HUGE! The machine is FAST FAST FAST......only the single proc model. Still uses they cute little PRAM battery, kinda nice to see that for some unexplicable reason.... I was told that "possibly" the iChat AV beta is going away from the apple website, so if you want it and not pay for it, do it quickly, I have it if anyone wants it. |
