10.2.5 slow printing on 7300/PPC 604 |

I recenlty plugged one of those Lexmark combo scanner/printer to a PCI USB adapter on my PM7300/PPC604@200MHz, and it appearantly worked fine. But after a few days using, I realized that printing was so absurdely slow - printing a photo in the best quality in approximately A4 size took almost 3 hours (that explains why the printer was so cheap, I thought). The quality was pretty good, however. Fact is, that one day I was running OS 9 in the same machine and I had to print a photo of the same specs of the one that took almost 3 hours. I was ready to sent it to print and go out for shopping, when I realized that the photo was printed in about 2 minutes, in the highest resolution! Any ideas on how to speed up printing in this machine? Or should I give up and stick to OS 9? |

Before I read your post I knew it was a Lexmark. Check your CPU usage and watch it jump up and down from full to 20% while you are doing nothing. Now run top in the terminal by typing :top(return) see that lexmark thread getting all your CPU time. Even while your not printing. Now email Lexmark and tell them to make a driver for the mac that works or stop selling printers that "say" they work for the Mac. |

OR get a G3 and upgrade to 10.2.8... Although that is no guarantee of good performance either... Marty |
