For those that have wondered where things like "play audio through output device" went in OS X like you could do in OS 9 easily, WONDER NO LONGER. Go HERE: http://bbs.xlr8yourmac.com/ubb/Forum12/HTML/000207.html Although it was done in Panther, it works in Jaguar too. Hopefully this might enable some OldWorld macs' line-in for those that miss it dearly. It isn't intuitive, but it just might be the ticket. - Chibi Delennâ„¢ |

Hey Chibi, Your 8500 just might have audio in no problem, there are a few us out there that have these with the A/V module, and they seem to work without any "massaging". I just upgraded one for someone and it just works, mine does too, which kills me since my main machine, a 9500, does not. |

Chibi, your play through theory doesn't seem right. The input sensitivity meter would show audio input, regardless of whether you can hear it or not. What kind of Old world machine have we seen this work with? Marty |

I'll try getting my shitbox, er, 8500 up and running today to test out Jag, if I have enough space to install (it's back on its 1 GB and 2 GB HDs respectively). If I didn't need my Tempo Trio in this G4 until I can acquire a Sonnet ATA/133 RAID card, I'd put it back in the 8500 for some hawt 40 GB HD aXXXion. Alas, not to be had today. I am hoping that my solution (which works for supported computers) will help pave the way for decent audio interaction in OS X for those still on OldWorld macs. - Chibi Delennâ„¢ |

Also, I will check on my 8500 w/AV module to see if there is anything different in relation to my 9500..... |

The playthrough box is on the M channel, not the 1 or 2 channel lines. The left side is the input gain section (you want that relatively low or else you get clipping). The right side (output) is the volume slider you change in sound prefpane. Change that there. The ONLY thing you need to mess with, assuming a single input source is available (line in/mic) is that "thru" box on the Input side on the M channel (stands for Master). It is entirely possible that on some, or all of the oldworld macs that the necessary audio files aren't loading, but since you have sound out as it is now, then this is probably why you don't have sound in. Just clicking that "thru" box itself is what enables the sound throughput. If you enable that, you may find that you've had sound in all along, but no way to *determine* it because nothing had played through to the speaker/headphones. Once I get my 8500 back up and running, I'll find out if it works there or not. Either way, this is a step in the right direction, as Audio MIDI Setup.app is where your sound inputs/outputs are configured, and NOT in sound prefpane. Not a very intuitive approach, and shame on Apple for making even supported computers have to go through this crap just to enable sound loopthrough. - Chibi Delennâ„¢ |

Same here on my powertowerpro. Everything relevant is greyed out, so there is no win here... Damn, got me excited for a sec too. Marty |

This is interesting Chibi. I submitted the Powerwave sound problem below, and I tried this on the G4 700 Power Computing Powerwave running OS 10.2.6. To my surprise, on mine, the input section source box is greyed out, the input volume is greyed out, and the channel 1 and 2 play through boxes do not respond. On the output section, the output volume is down to zero and greyed out. Weird. Looks like perhaps certain resources were not loaded when the OS was installed. I have to bring in my G3 Wallstreet and have it log into my computer and compare files, painstakingly. Mike Peterson |
