SCSI CD ROM Drivers won't load |

I've tried both XPostFactp 2.5.5 and 3.0 to load 10.2.3 onto my recently G3 300 upgraded PowerMac 7300. The file copy from the OS X disc seems to usually go without a hitch, and the reboot gives me the familiar OS X Apple logo, but as the command lines thread down to the loading of the SCSI CD ROM Drivers, neither will load and the command line sits waiting for root device indefinitely. I have to reboot into 9 and I can't find a way around it. I even bought Sonnet's OS X installer in hopes it might work and it just reboots to a black screen. I have 2 Seagate SCSI 18GB drives attached, one with SCSI ID 0 and one with SCSI ID 3 and they wirk and mount fine under OS 9.1 and 9.2.2 depending on which partition I boot from. What is preventing the 7300 from booting from the CD? Mark |

Have you tried connecting the CD-ROM to the "External" Bus? The 4x Matshita 'Apple-ROM' drive WOULD NOT install on my 9500s' internal SCSI Bus. When I attached it to the External Bus (making sure that it was terminated via the "Term." jumper) it worked, albeit very slowly. |

Some CDROM drives are not OF bootable, I have one myself. Replace the drive or Clone the Install Disc to your HD and run the Install from there. |

Just to clear up a possible misunderstanding, the messages referring to "PatchedIOSCSICDDrive" and "PatchedSCSIDeviceType05" have no relevence to the problem. These two device drivers are only intended to load on 10.0.x and 10.1.x systems and are intentionally built in such a way that they will not load on 10.2.x Hopefully Ryan will make these a selective install based on the version of OSX in a future release - the messages just cause confusion. Having said that, I think the diagnosis that the CD drive is the issue are correct and the advice already given is spot on. |

The advice listed below is where to start. One thing I have found is that some stock Mashita(sp?) stock CD ROM's are VERY screwy when trying to load anything beyond an OS 8 disk. |

Why don't you download SCSI Probe (utility that functions in OS 9 but not classic or OSX) and check and make sure you don't have problems with SCSI addresses being incorrect. Usually ID 3 is internal CD-ROM as you heard from others. OS 9 is more forgiving of termination problems than OSX and that could be a problem. I would also fiddle with the throttle setting on XPF although that isn't likely since Sonnet's installer wouldn't work. |

I tend to agree with egonzales21. Try moving the hd in SCSI Id 3 to 2 or 1. Also make sure the terminations are okay. OS 9 is a lot more forgiving with SCSI devices |

What SCSI CD ROM drive are using - stock or an upgraded model? Are the hard drives on a separate SCSI chain than the CD ROM? The normal SCSI ID for an Apple CD ROM drive is ID 3 which might be a problem. Will wait for more info. Ed |
