Ryan, Any update on mutliple processor support? I've a dual 200MHz 604 that's aching to be used in X. |

No, I mean buy a G4 upgrade card. A CPU is no differant than ram just replace it and you still get to use your old Mac. |

Granted a G4 400 will outperform a dual 200 604e. But then again a G4 can natively run X, whereas oldworld can't natively. The whole point is to make use of what we have, and the geek factor. Though, thank you for the suggestion about NetBSD. Still beyond me, but I'll look into it. |

One G4 400 is going to smoke two 604's. NetBSD PPC once had dual CPU support and you can still compile it to the Kernal. NetBSD PPC and OS X being very close to the same on the Kernal level. Would not be too hard to add Dual 604 CPU to 10.0-10.1.5 however 10.2-10.3 is another matter as there maybe code to prevent non "G" chips from loading Mach_Kernal. Check out OpenDarwin.org and Apple for source code and NetBSD.org for some code to "look at". If there were any upside to recompiling Mach_Kernal for two 604's some Unix Guru would have done it, but doing $5000 worth of work when a $200 G4 will eat it alive just killed it. |

You're very right, Ryan's time is precious and is better spent on common configurations. But a geek can still dream can't he? I wish Ryan had more assistance. I would gladly offer it, but this is beyond my programming level. Oh well. It was worth a shot. |

I have been buggin Ryan about this since 10.0.0 (literally), and he also has a multi- 604 card, but alas, his time is precious and supporting more common configurations is more important. I have a server with a dual 604/200 in it that has been running OSX Server since 10.0.3 (it's 10.1.5 now) and I have dreamed about having an update that got that second chip humming. Oh well. Marty |

You'll be lucky to get even one of those 604s running in Jaguar, let alone Panther. I personally would rather see dual G4 capability (for beiges and any older macs that have cases that will allow a CarrierZIF MPe + Mach Velocity to fit), though for me it is too late as I sold the MV and one of the G4s (I'm gonna sell the other too this week). - Chibi Delennâ„¢ |
