I have installed X on this machine once with great success, now I can't get it to install agian. I have a gig of ram, the original twin turbo card, and a tempo trio card, XLR8 carrier ZIF. when I run XPF the system reboots, I get the apple logo then it switches to a black screen that says: "Standard timeslicing quantum is 10000us vm_page_bootstrap: 190353 free pages mig tmig_table_max_displ = 64 COLOR video console at 0x82000000 (640x480x8)" after this it just hangs up. Any advice would be greatly appreciated Clint |

Like to announce success in the installation of Jaguar on my S900. After two days of scratching my head why I could not get beyond the XPostFacto restart, I discovered that you have to pay very close attention to every detail in your preparation. The first problem was that I formatted my new Seagate Barracuda 80 GB drive with OS X utilities instead of the 9.1 Drive setup. After I went back over each step and removed the only new card that I had installed (a USB 2.0 2 port from Comp USA) and cranked my processor down from 500 Mhz to 450 Mhz. Formatted the drive with the Drive setup from another drive running on 9.2.2. Then while booted on that drive I inserted the install CD and clicked on XPostFacto 3.0a4 and set everything up but left the throttle set at 0. Clicked install and watched it do its thing and then restart (holding my breath) and then give me a chime and then the verbose startup screen and finally the Mac OS X installer panel. Have now cracked open a bottle of beer to celebrate as it continues the installation which has finished and now I am doing updates and setting up my preferences. Cracked open another beer. It is quite apparent that an all ATA Umax S900 runs very nicely on Jaguar. I only hope that Rayans has good luck in getting XPostFacto up to a Panther install sometime in the next month as I have seen it in action and would like to take this machine up to it. I will keep my S900 #2 machine running on 9.2.2 for the time being as it needs more ram and a faster CPU. Richie |

Well I am calling it a night, but thought I would post a question. I am have been trying for the past 6 hours to get 10.2 to install. I am using 3.0a4 on my 80GB Seagate ATA drive. It was formatted by Apple 9x Utilities and has 9.2.2 installed. I start with XPostFacto everything proceeds fine until it restarts my S900 to finish installing OS 10.2. All I get is a chime and no video. XLR8 G3 400 Mhz 10X IBM chip running at 500 Mhz 1 mb backside. 400 mb ram. Slot 1 Acard ATA 66 (6260M)- 2 -HD one on each port. Slot 2 IMS Twin Turbo 128M Slot 3 Sonnet ATA 100 - Port#1 Polaroid BurnMax CDRW Port # 2 Apple 24 CD-ROM Slot 4,5 empty Slot 6 Comp USA 2 port USB 2.0 I had no problems bringing the machine up to 9.2.2 from 9.1 but now I am stumped. Any suggestions or advice welcomed. Richie |

Thanks Thomas! I remebered there being something involving the Banshee and the two top slots. I Kept trying with the TwinTurbo in the top but you are right it must be in slot two. I really appreciate your help with this. Now the Umax has a new life as a server! Again thanks! Clint |

Make certain that your video card is in PCI slot 2, and if you have installed another PCI card such as a usb/firewire card that it is installed in PCI slot 1. I tried installing the the USB/firewire in other slots but to no avail. Go to the UMAX website and look at the S900 diagram and you will see that the first two slots are like any other MAC such as a 9500, but the other four slots are different. |

The messages you are seeing seem to be a part of a normal verbose boot... Doesn't look like any problem report there... Have you added new hardware since you last ran OSX? If not, what version was that? And what version are you trying to install now? Or is this already installed and now does the above? More info and less begging might work :~) Marty |
