Any way to force 1024x768 in verbose mode |

I'm a big fan of starting up in verbose mode (the geeky side of me). However, ever since I put my Radeon Mac Edition in, verbose mode will only be in 640x480 mode. I'm assuming this is a "safe" resolution that gets defaulted to. Is there any way to force it to 832x624, or 1024x768? I'd be interested to know if other Radeon users get this same effect as well. -Ben |

I have one of those DIP switch adapters for the VGA video ports. I noticed that my old Starmax would always boot into 640x480 if no monitor was attached (accessing it via Timbuktu Pro). I couldn't change the resolution to 1024x768 no matter what I did. But then I read somewhere that if you put attach one of these adapters on to the empty VGA port, you can set the resolution to anything your monitor supports. Sure enough, this worked and the Starmax now comes up as 1024x768 over Timbuktu with no monitor connected. I purchased this VGA adapter at CompUSA about a year ago so that I could hook up PowerMacs to my old Apple 13" monitor from 10 years ago. |

Our 8600/200 had a while a Samsung 757DFX attached via an adaptor set to 1152x870 via DIP switches and also the verbose mode used this resolution. Now we have an adaptor without DIPs and verbose boot is 640x480 while Mac OS 9 boots with 1152x870 from the start. Mac OS X changes to 1152x870 when the GUI starts. Also our AppleVision 1710 used 640x480 in verbose mode. |

Different video cards seem to boot up in different resolutions for verbose mode, and I'm not sure why. It also may differ depending on the monitor involved. I'm assuming that there may be a PRAM setting that has some influence on this, but that may be wrong. I guess I don't know :-) |

Yep, I've got the Radeon 7000 Mac Edition. Not only does it start up in VGA resolution in verbose mode, but also in normal mode, not to mention in OS 9.x. I've always thought that this card booted up in VGA mode to be safe and then switched to the desired resolution once it's extensions loaded. I've never experienced any other behavior than this. I sent a question to ATI about this and they thought it was strange as well. They asked for a ton of debug information which I just didn't have time to forward to them (spending all my free time trying to get this XLR8 card and some DIMM to not freeze all the time). I can live with this anomaly for now. On the positive side, at least all of the VGA text is on the screen and readable. My older ATI XClaim card chops off the first few characters of each line so it's hard to figure out some of the messages scrolling by. |

I like verbose mode too and I have the same problem. |
