Virtual PC on old world mac |

One problem I have using OS X on my 8500 is that Virtual PC can't read CD's. I think this might have to do with the SCSI CD ROM. Has anyone using an old world Mac found a solution to this problem other than booting into 9.1? Has anyone here had this same problem on an officially supported Mac? |

Speaking from personal experience with my former XLR8 card, you might want to consider trading it in for a Sonnet or Powerlogix card. I had freeze problems with multiple sets of memory DIMMs usinsg the XLR8 card under 10.1.5, 9.1, and 9.2.2. The only solution to the freeze problems has been to get rid of the XLR8 card. I now own a Sonnet G4/450 card and haven't had one freeze of the machine under any of the OS versions in nearly a week. Tony |

One of my major problems has been that my Mac hasn't been able to run OS 9.1 reliably with the XLR8 Carrier G4. Another problem is that Xpostfacto has trouble setting any drive I have attached to my Atto UW2d card. I was able to create an image on my backup computer and this does work in Virtual PC. Virtual PC has worked well other than the CD problem. It hardly ever crashes on me. When I used it with 9.1 things usually ended with a hard freeze and reboot. I can't help with this problem (yet!)... Can I assume from your question that you have Virtual PC 5 running on OS X on an 8500? Since VPC 5 states the requirement for a G3/G4 processor, can I also assume that you have an upgrade card of some variety? Thanks, Mark PM8500/Sonnet G3 400/512 MB/18+9 GB/OS X 10.1.5... |

It's not a beautiful solution, but if the Old World Mac is G3- upgraded, and you are using Virtual PC 5, you could image the CD you wish to use with Disk Copy (I imagine under 9 or X), and then have Virtual PC mount the image. Note that I haven't actually tried this, but it seems like it would work. |
