I have problems to get CDRW in 10.2 My machine is UMAX Pulsar S900 with XLR8 G3/400 and Acard ATA66. The IDE HD is attached to primary master and CDRW is attached to secondard master. I used XPF 2.2.1 to install 10.2 from 9.1. The CDRW works well under OS9. When I used XPF to install 10.2, it occasionally cound not find CDRW during booting from 10.2 disc 1 and the system hanged. However, it could be cured by restart and the installing process continues. After finishing the install of disc 1 and rebooting, the CDRW never worked. Most of time, the eject button failed to pop the tray of the drive after the booting screen showed up. I checked the apple system profiler and found no CDRW attached. I rebooted with verbose mode enabled and found the following message: Sep 4 13:58:34 localhost mach_kernel: getDependencyListForKmod(): Dependency com.apple.kernel of oldworld.support.PatchedIOSCSICDDr ive is not compatible or is unavailable. Sep 4 13:58:34 localhost mach_kernel: load_kernel_extension(): Can't get dependencies for kernel extension "oldworld.support.Patche dIOSCSICDDrive". Sep 4 13:58:34 localhost mach_kernel: IOCatalogue: oldworld.support.PatchedIOSCSICDDrive cannot be loaded. There was some error message above mentioned PatchedIOSCSICDDrive. Is there any relation between them? How can I do to solve my problem? Yu-Hung |

Most likely, 10.2.1 will fix it because this is a wide-spread problem. Something about last-minute API changes affecting CDRWs... |

After applying the hack mentioned above, the CDRW could mount the CD in 10.2 and be recognized in Toast 5.1.4. However, it is reported as "Not Supported" in Apple System Profiler. I am still not sure it can work in iTune and other apple softwares or not. Maybe Ryan have some discussion with the author of the hack to include it into XFP. Thanks you, tempest. |
