No USB recog in Jag |

Glad to see forum's back up and running. I'm sure this has nothing to do with XPostFacto, but just wondering if anyone else has encountered same problem. Jaguar System profile says No USB Devices Found. Fortunately Print utility finds my USB printer and prints fine - but no-go on Umax scanner. Even with printer working sys profile says No USB. Any way to force it to see it (just thought I'd ask...). Am on a 7300/200 NewerTech G3, 8G HD, with 9.2.2 on orig 2G drive. Anyone know what might give here? |

Thanks guys, I got that software update and all is well now. My box shipped with 1.0.3 which didn't work, and the 1.0.4 update fixed it. |

Avit, Logitech posted V1.04 of their software yesterday, Seems much the same as V1.03 - probably just adds support for their new mice & trackballs which seem to have sprouted more buttons than the average keyboard. |

Avit, are you using the drivers that came with your keyboard/mouse? I'm using V1.03 of Logitech Control Centre. It's available at http://www.versiontracker.com/moreinfo.fcgi?id=14421&db=mac Haven't had any trouble loading it in 10.2 / 10.2.1 / 10.2.2 |

Thanks for the great info Nick. I had already tried kextstat and kextload without success. I hadn't thought of checking the permissions, so I just did that now. However, I still have problems trying to load the kext: % sudo kextload LogitechUSBHIDevices.kext kextload: cannot resolve dependencies for kernel extension LogitechUSBHIDevices.kext % sudo kextload -t LogitechUSBHIDevices.kext kernel extension LogitechUSBHIDevices.kext has problems: Missing dependencies { "com.apple.kernel" = "A valid compatible version of this dependency cannot be found" } The -t option does a dependency test. I don't understand why it's reporting that com.apple.kernel cannot be found? I'm wondering if my Logitech driver might have a version conflict with Jaguar (Darwin 6.2) ? |

Sorry again, there's a missing line break between a couple of commands. Text should read If it doesn't then use following commands sudo chown -R root:wheel LogitechUSBHIDevices.kext sudo chmod 755 LogitechUSBHIDevices.kext |

Sorry, just spotted a typo in my previous post. Lines 6 & 7 should have said If you don't then you need to check the existence, ownership and permissions on the driver located at /System/Library/Extensions/LogitechUSBHIDevices.kext I think the rest is ok. |

If you've already run the Logitech installer once then you should check that the Logitech driver is loaded. In the terminal type sudo kextstat | grep Logitech You should get a response like this 44 0 0x12796000 0x16000 0x15000 com.Logitech.driver.HIDDevices (1.0.3) <26 15 14 5 4 3> If you don't then you need to check the existence, ownership and permissions on the driver located at /System/Library/LogitechUSBHIDevices.kext For this to load properly it needs to be owned by root and be in group wheel. I've noticed that many installers fail to correctly set the permissions on kexts. Easiest way to fix it is to use the terminal cd /System/Library/Extensions ls -ld LogitechUSBHIDevices.kext This should return a string like the following drwxr-xr-x 3 root wheel 102 Sep 20 17:47 LogitechUSBHIDevices.kext/ If it doesn't then use following commands sudo chown -R root:wheel LogitechUSBHIDevices.kext sudo chmod 755 LogitechUSBHIDevices.kext Now make sure the kext will load by typing sudo kextload LogitechUSBHIDevices.kext Then give the preference pane another try. You might want to unplug & replug your USB receiver as well. I have a cordless mouseman optical and it works fine (currently OS 10.2.2). |

I just bought some new USB toys, not even thinking that they might be an issue with my system. My Nikon camera has always worked... I got a Canon printer which works, and a Logitech wireless mouse/keyboard combo which also work, but can't be configured because the Preference Pane reports "No Logitech devices found." Strange, seeing as I'm using the mouse/keyboard to open the System Preferences... How does one go about reinstalling the USB driver? |

OS X System Profiler has never shown USB buses attached to PCI cards. It only shows built-in USB. This is not new to Jaguar, it's always been the case. If you have the Developer tools installed you can use IORegistryExplorer to probe your USB devices. Failing that there is a command line program called ioreg which will list all your connected devices in a terminal window but it's not very user-friendly. |
