Hey -- I installed os x & 9.1 on a single 30 Gig drive in a pb3400. Everything was wonderful, till, with a flick of my wrist, I put my pb to sleep in X. After this, I couldn't boot into x (I'd get a blank screen). So, booting into 9.1, I went to try to reinstall x, but selected the 9.1 partition by mistake and only noticed after I alreadty clicked 'Install'. The end result was a pb that does not boot to a grey screen, even when I try booting off a 9 (or 8) cd. As a last-ditch effort, I removed the hard drive, attached it (via noptebook adapter) to my Windows box, and formatted the guy in fdisk. After this, I reinstalled the hd, but I still get no grey screen (it's always black), and booting from cd is a failure. So that's where I'm at, and now I'm not sure what my next step should be. Anyone have any suggestions? |

You can try resetting the power manager to see if that helps (it ought to). To do that, you start with power off. There is a thin vertical button on the back of the 3400 near the modem port and serial port. Hold that in for about thirty seconds or so, then let go. That should result in a successful boot into Mac OS 9. |

I have no CPU upgrade. I've attempted zapping the pram by booting and holding down command-control-p-r, but since it never gets to a grey screen, I never hear the beeps that signify the pram being successfully zapped. How do I go about doing it in my case? |

zap the pram (if you have a CPU upgrade you need to use the floppy that came with it.) |
