are all the articles just gone!!!!!!? I was needing to hear back from powderhaus about his recommendations for PowerCenterPro troubles. I did everything he suggested and i still get the broken system icon. So the dragging the OS X CD on the "system restore" application in OS 9.1, having 3 partitions, did not work. WHAT NOW?! Do i need to remove the "stock" ATI graphics card for the install? Or something else? |

I just got OS X installed on my PCP with a PowerLogix G3 card after a couple unsuccessful attempts. After unsuccessfully trying with XPF 2.2, I thought I would sanity check and see if Darwin (1.4.1) would install (I was sort of curious if the problem was me using the built-in video). I installed Darwin with XPF 2.2.2 and it worked fine. So I thought why not try OS X one more time, and (huzzah!) this time it worked. I don't know if it is just a fluke that it worked after I installed Darwin or if it was key, but it works now so... |

If you boot in verbose mode (with command-v held down), you should get an error message, rather than just the broken folder. One possibility is that the problem has something to do with your partition structure, if you have partitioned in a special way for Linux. It might help to reformat the drive, with Drive Setup or with Intech's Hard Disk SpeedTools (other formatters do not produce bootable drives for Mac OS X, at least on older machines). |

If you use verbose mode in Xpostfacto does it say anything before you get the broken icon? i cant remember if it does. And make sure your scsi drives are terminated properly. a termination at the first and last device on the chain. |

OK i have spent the last few days trying everything on the planet that i can think of! (nearly 24 hours! not straight, but total, i ahve to work and spend time with my wife - so i'm told) I will give you details on my system first! PowerCenter Pro 180 with a Sonnet G3 500Mhz upgrade card level 2 cache removed the stock 2GB IBM internal scsi hard drive (partitioned for Yellow Dog Linux - will get to that later) and additional 8 GB internal scsi Seagate drive - partitioned (Mas OS 9.1.1 installed, Mac OS X partition [not installed yet - duh] :-) and Mac OS 9.2 classic partition, also not installed yet) stock ATI mach64 graphics card 512 MB ram exteranl Zip 100 scsi sony Tinitron multiscan15sx monitor stock keyboard and mouse I have tried XpostFacto 2.2.2 and Sonnet PCI X installer 1.2.5 and YDL linux 2.3 on the stock IBM drive all by it's lonesome (KDE and Gnome always hang and freeze are startup, so i never get to do anything, and have to run fsck manually ALL the time which is very confusing and NOT an effective use of my time) Any suggestions on why..... all Xpost facto does is give me a broken icon - so i can't install OS X --- Sonnet PCI X won't even copy all the files off the Apple OS X install CD properly, gives me this error, "an error prevented update from completeing 11002:2,-14" --- and finally YDL 2.3 does me absolutely not good at this point, CAN YOU help? i only went to it because these other two products will not work on my machine = = = will anything work on my machine?!?! |

They're back now--my apologies for the difficulties on the 4th and 5th. I've posted something to that other thread, I believe. |
