Please clarify. Can XPostFacto work on a Mac 7200 with a G3 upgrade card? I understand that you are still working on making XPostFacto work on a Legacy 7200, but I also seem to understand that it works with any G3 or G4 upgrade card. Which is correct? I'm having difficulty getting it to work on my computer, it gives me a blank screen when rebooting. I tried disconnecting my only SCSI device and taking out the USB card, but still no success. Any ideas? |

I just gave my wife the upgraded 7200 running a hybrid version of 9.1/9.2.2 and she seems pretty happy with it. She made a good point that the 7200 feels faster under OS 9 than my 450 Sawtooth feels under 10.1.5. She even prefers the "faster" 7200 over my "slower" Sawtooth! So, if you want your wife to understand, just tell her that the 7200 will run faster under OS 9, so she's better off with it. And you won't even be lying! Tony |

That's a real bummer. I was hoping the upgrade card would work. Guess it's time to invest in a new Mac, but will my wife understand?? Thanks for the info. Dixon |

You can't run OS X on a G3-upgraded 7200 or even a plain 7200, at least not yet. First, the 7200 is PPC601-based and OS X will not run on the 601. Second, the 7200 always boots up with the 601 processor and runs under it until the Sonnet extension loads to enable the G3 card. I have the same setup as you. If it can even be done, Ryan would have to include some sort of extensions that would allow the 7200 to boot into the OS X CD with a 601 processor and then either run the Sonnet extension or replace it's functionality to get the system to run off of the G3 accelerator card. Neither of these tasks are going to be easy to accomplish, if they're even possible to do. |
