Hi Guru, During the startup of X.2 I get lots of errors relating to PatchedIOSCSICDDrive.kext and PatchedSCSIDeviceType05.kext not being compatible and or not being found. This results in my internal SCSI Hitatchi DVD-RAM drive not working properly while my external SCSI Yamaha CDRW drive does. Sometimes I can put a normal data CD in the drive and the Finder attempts to mount it but hangs in the process and I have to reboot. Other times the insertion of a CD doesn't even get recognized. Wierd, the inconsistent behavior. Just wondering if others have seen this or maybe I'm the only one with a DVD-RAM drive in a 8500. :-) The drive seemed to work fine in 10.1.* for all flavors of CD's, DVD-ROMS and DVD-RAM disks. I'm about to reboot without the aforementioned extension disabled and see what that yields. Thanks for any help Tim |

Thanks all! For my particular problem it turns out that since I no longer have a drive connected to my internal SCSI bus, yeah!, it left my DVD_RAM drive feeling all alone and scared and not terminated. :-0 So once a terminator was popped on the internal SCSI bus the DVD_RAM drive was once again in business. This is ok. There are different versions of the patchedioscsicddrive.kext (3 to be exact). One is for 10.0.x, one is for 10.1.x, and one is for 10.2.x. One will load while the other two will always fail and give you the errors you reported. This is just fine and won't effect functionality. -Ben |

I've gotten a similar message in Verbose mode which, (since I haven't the foggiest notion of what's going on), I've interpreted to mean that there is some problem with an internal SCSI Zip drive located at ID #5. The process continues to "WAITING FOR ROOT DEVICE" and the install hangs at that point. Since I've had absolutely no success getting this new OS to install,it suggests that one should disconnect everything (external SCSI devices, internal SCSI devices, internal USB/Firewire PCI cards, USB hubs, ADB digital tablets, etc., etc. Don't expect support from Apple, their response, apart from not really caring, is to buy a new com |
