10.2 IDE DVD in 7600 not reading discs |

I have a 7600 that I just upgraded to 10.2.1, with a Turbomax ATA/66 card (Acard 6260 chipset) and an LG(?) DVD-ROM drive hanging off the IDE card. The DVD worked fine under 10.1.x, but doesn't work under 10.2.x. Every CD I've put into the drive has been unreadable ("MacOS can't read this disc, do you want to ignore or eject?"), even though the same discs work in my external firewire + SCSI drives. The drive shows up in ASP as a SCSI device (as it should; the 3 HDs on the IDE card show up as SCSI devices too), but it seems that in the upgrade to 10.2 the card or the drive forgot how CDs are supposed to work. I've tried reinstalling the XPostFacto extensions, with no luck. I know that some IDE cards have problems with CD/DVD drives, but up until now my card wasn't one of them. Has anyone seen this behavior? Any suggestions? 10.2 has a new version of the Acard62xxM kext, I assume that's the problem? |

Well, I extracted DVD Player 3.2 and downloaded the patch and it worked. I can now watch DVD's with the Superdrive. Not my preferred method but it's nice to be able to. |

I saw a posting on that DVD player 3.2 patch on dealmac earlier. I'm going to try it when I get home in an hour or so. |

I downloaded the program "DVDPlayer 3.2 no DVD Cocoa" from macbidouille.com + ran it. Now I have DVDs playing under 10.2 on my 7600! http://www.macbidouille.com/niouzcontenu.php?date=2002-08-28#3289 Now if only the AV inputs on the machine worked.... :) |

Thanks for the suggestion about trying older ACard drivers. I didn't grab the ones off the website; instead I copied the ones from my 10.1.5 partition. Now I can mount CDs and DVDs on the desktop with no trouble, which is certainly a step forward. DVD Player complains that it can't find a valid DVD drive....I'm working on that now. I assume I just need the cracked version of DVD Player.app v3.2 (the DVD player from 10.1.5 crashes on startup). I'll keep everyone posted. |

i can second that observation. i also have a Pioneer DVR-104 in a firewire case, and under 10.2.1 the OS doesn't see it, so it will not install iDVD or the Apple DVD Player, but Toast does, so i can still burn DVD-Rs. oh well... you take what you can get i guess. |

the copy of the Acard62xxM.kext is version 1.4. The version on the Acard site is 1.3. Maybe downgrading will resolve your problem. Were you able to use the DVD drive to watch movies under 10.1.5? I tried a Pioneer Superdrive (DVR-104) on my Acard Ultra ATA/100 card but 10.2 didn't see the drive. I haven't tried it with 10.2.1 yet but I still don't think it will work. It shows up fine when it's in a FW case but the DVD player still won't work. |

This is a very strange behavior that your card have. If you use the Acard62xxM.kext try to download a newer version that acard posted on their site. It is 10.2 compatible. |
