System config: PM 7500 with XLR8 MaCh Carrier MPe with a G4 350 512MB of RAM, brand new from DataMem.com 4GB internal IBM SCSI drive partitioned in 2 with classic installed on 400MB partition and trying to install Jag on the other one. Also have an external 350 SCSI drive. Everything is terminated correctly as far as I can tell. I've booted with XPF in verbose mode. Get several errors, mainly stating that a bunch of things couldn't be loaded. Here's the text from the last line: From path: "scsi-init/@3:9", Waiting on IOPathMatch IODeviceTree:/bandit/gc/mesh/@3:9 ADB present:c still waiting for root device And it repeats still waiting for root device...I've read that means that there's a possible dificulty with the CD ROM drive. I've actually tried two different ones, the 600i that came with the machine and a 600i out of a 6220CD. When things are booting, I hear the HD spin up, but I never here the CD spinning as if it were being accessed. I assume this is the problem, but I don't have any ideas on how to fix it baring getting a new CD ROM drive. Any thoughts and help would be greatly appreciated. |

Eerie! I had exactly the opposite experience on a 7500. When I first tried XPostFacto last year, with OS 10.0 I think (or maybe other versions through 10.0.3), I found that I couldn't get OS X to install unless I booted the installer CD from an Apple original CDROM drive connected internally. Other people at the time had the same experience. Just shows that, no matter what you think you've pinned down, if it doesn't work at some point in the future, try the opposite approach even if it didn't work for you earlier. |

Sorry I missed your question--glad you got it to work. I've been out of commission for a little while this week. |

just want to contribute one word: firewire! using firewire on my 7500 i have solved the ATA HD audio stuttering problem, and has allowed me to use the Pioneer DVR-A04. now i can say i'm still happy with my little ol' 7500 under 10.2.1. |

I'm happy to report that I'm now running OS 10.2 on my 7500. Here's what I had to do... After reading about the problems with SCSI drives, I took my CD ROM drive out of the machine and connected it to an external case that I had been using for an external HD. Anyway, this licked the problem of the XPF not seeing my CD ROM drive. It took about 40 minutes to complete the install. Once I rebooted, it took a little fiddling with my monitor. I think I need more VRAM. Anyway, I've installed the PowerLogix Cache enabler, and am now downloading the 10.2.1 update along with the security updates. The machine is actually pretty snappy considering everything. I'm planning on using it as a server for a web site. It would have been nice to get some feedback on my problem here in the forum, but I suppose folks were busy. Anyway, I'm just glad I got everything ot work. |
