I can't get this to work. I've got an 8600 upgraded with a G3 card, an Acard ATA card with two IDE drives and 160MB of RAM in this machine. I run the XpostFacto program and click the install button, the machine restarts fine, gets to the grey Apple logo and then about two seconds later it changes to a circle with a line through it and it will just hang there until i restart. I tried throttling down the processor and tried setting XpostFacto to boot into Verbose mode but neither work. Any ideas on what i should do next?? |

Well, I'm glad to say my problems are fixed. The installation failure issue i was having was related to a bad disk of 10.2! I put my hard drive in my G4 and tried to install on that machine, it failed on there. So i've got a CD-R copy that i'm using now and it installed fine. |

FWIW I just had the same problem trying to install onto a 7600 internal 9 gig hd. I discovered that, not only did the drive have to be on SCSI chain 1 (not 0) but it wouldn't install until I partitioned the drive so it was installing on a less than 8 gig partition. |

Setting the output-device made the difference, i was able to get much further then the circle graphic but when actually trying to install i got a message saying that there were errors. Can i install 10.2 on a supported machine like a G4, then move my drive into the unsupported machine and have XpostFacto make it boot? |

Try setting the output-device in the Open Firmware menu of XPostFacto to your monitor. Then, hold down command-v as XPostFacto restarts your computer. This should give you an error message of some kind, rather than the graphic. Let me know what the error message is, and we may be able to figure out what is wrong. |

I had this same problem, the solution for me at least was to reformat the destination drive with apple's drive setup tool in OS9. I dont know if this will work for you, but its worth a shot. -b |
