First I would like to report that I have somewhat successfully installed OS 10.2 on my PTP 225 updated with a XLR8 Carrier Zif and 400 MHz G3 using the latest version of XPostFacto. My (old) system had some interleaved memory, an ATI Rage Orion Graphics board, and the original (non apple) CD ROM drive. All of these factors have been identified as possible causes for failure. Also of note is that I had earlier tried and failed with OS 10.1.3 and given up on that version. I believe my success was attributable to a combination of a newer version of XPostFacto and that 10.2 is actually more forgiving about non apple CD ROM drives and older ATI video cards. On my first try I used Powerlogix cache control software to enable the L2 cache. It requires use of terminal and, while it did work, at times while watching the terminal messages unfold, it looked like it was having problems. Apparently, if they were problems, they were not fatal in enabling the L2 cache. However, I had a great deal of trouble in rebooting the machine, often taking 3 tries. I decided to start with a freah install of OS 10.2 and use Ryan's cache enabling software, wich I did successfully. However, I am still have boot problems. Sometimes it boots on the first try but often takes 2 tries. I get the circle with a line through it on the first try. After boot, the system seems to work fine. Any ideas about improving boot stability? I do have one (out of 3) HD's with a hard disk tool kit driver on it. But once the system boots it always mounts all 4 drives. |

Powerlogix's install.sh script does some uninstallation steps before actually installing. If you haven't had any of the software installed before then the errors are most likely reporting that the files that it's trying to delete don't actually exist. They're probably harmless errors, but it would be nice if they made a smarter script with a few if/then checks. |

The mesh chip is the internal SCSI controller. So it sounds like intermittent problems with the SCSI bus. You could double-check your termination to make sure that it is correct. In some cases, installing a new SCSI cable helps (but that is awkward to do). |

I have tried that 4 times. Each time it booted successfully. But it still occasionally fails when I boot without command-v. |

To diagnose the reason for the failed boots, the best thing to do is to hold down command-v to boot in verbose mode. You should then get an error message, instead of just the circle with a line through it. |
