New G4 card - no work-e |

I bought one of those XLR8 G4 Carrier Zifs for use in my PowerCenter. I get no startup chime and it doesn't boot. Just tried it in a 9500 and get the same results. Is it bad? |

I've got the Sonnet G4 800 in my Power Tower Pro 225 (9500 based). I upgraded from an XLR8 G4 450. It has been pretty much problem free under 10.1.5 - 10.2.1. Everything definitely seemed faster after the changeover. That was about a month ago so I'm used to it now and I don't really remember the contrast as clearly as before. Things that I still clearly see a difference in are the responsiveness of the interface. ASP opens quicker, scrolling is smoother in IE5, mp3 ripping is faster, as are Final Cut Pro renders and Photoshop operations. It's well worth the price. I can now wait longer for a new Mac. |

I think I tried all the suggestions here with no better results. OWC has offered to take the card back for exchange. Has anyone used the new 800mhz cards on a 9500? What do you recommend? |

Re: RAM...6 64meg & 6 128meg DIMMS (128s purchased from OWC); interleved and working on the 9500 upgraded with an XLR8 carrier card + G3 @ 500mhz The XLR8/G3 upgrade was purchased from OWC; first one went bad and was repaired/replaced by OWC. System runs Jaguar fine. I'm even thinking of trying that Sonnet G4 800mhz thanks to XPF. And, unfortunately, you can't pull the motherboard cache on a 9500. You'll probably need one of the cache control widgets from XLR8, PowerLogix, or Sonnet to turn it off. I think I'm using the PowerLogix (I'm at work, the 9500 is at home). It works in X and is free, if I'm not having a senior moment. And the blinking light...my XLR8 has a blinking red LED on the carrier card to indicate it's running...might be what you're seeing. Green makes more sense than red...maybe they switched colors before they died. |

Another thing that is worth trying is verifying that the dip switches on the card are set correctly for the CPU speed and cache speed that will work with your ZIF and your system. I've gotten those wrong often enough :-) |

Uh, did anyone try pressing the CUDA button while the machine was actually plugged in??? It seems to me that common sense dictates that you must have power flowing to or through a button to get a button press to actually do anything to the circuit. (In fact, the instructions for my G4 card said that you should leave it plugged in while you discharge yourself, and while you press the CUDA after popping in the card) Remove any cache on the 9500's board as well. |

download a copy of Gauge Pro from versiontracker.com or the OWC (eshop.macsales.com) Tech Center and it will tell you what kind of RAM you have in your machine. I think though that the 9500s take FPM RAM. I have a Power Tower Pro, which is based on the 9500 and that's what I use. All bought from OWC and problem free. |

As all of you talking about RAM. I am having a 9500 and I an using 6 64MB interleaved memory. As I want to purchase 2 128MB ram, I would like to purchase these OWC that costs almost $20 (I do not remember the exact price). Do I am going to have any problems with this memory, and the already intalled. The problem is that I do not know if the installed memory is EDO, in order to purchase EDO or not. Can someone know what is the correct memory for me, and if I have to know, and how, the current memory is EDO or not so to purchase the same type. |

Hmmm... Memory, I'm using 128 mb of ram that came out of the PowerCenter on the 9500. 2x32 & 1 64. All different types. However the PowerCenter has 4 128 sticks that came from OWC. Also, there is a green light on the carrier card that is blinking, but I couldn't find anything in the docs that mention what that is suppose to mean. |

I think the problem is the memory. I had the same problem using a 9500 with mixed RAM, some borrowed from my PowerCenter. I removed all the RAM leaving only the factory-installed RAM in the machine and it worked. A friend of mine had the same problem with a 9500 with RAM taken from a 7200, until he removed all the memory and put RAM he bought on eshop.macsales.com . Runs fine with it. |

I seem to remember having a similar problem -- one thing I tried was (at someone's suggestion) unplugging it, pulling the pram battery out, and letting it sit 20-30 minutes. Then doing the cuda hold-down, and reinstalling the battery. Also, try re-seating the card. I've installed three of these, but I seem to remember having trouble on at least on occasion getting the daughtercard to slot all the way in. |

Pressed the CUDA, a million times. How does one "deinterleave" their ram? |

Did you press the CUDA switch on the logic board? Also, for the 9500 at least you may have to deinterleave your RAM. |
