Anyone using an ATTO card? I am trying to get one going with an IBM36LZX drive. Drive works fine on the internal SCSI, even runs Jaguar. But if I try to use it with the card (an Atto,Express PCIProUL3 - Rom# 1.6.1f1) I get to the desktop in 9.1 and Bomb with Finder error 10. No problem if the card is in with no drive attached. Yes, I terminated the drive with jumpers but no luck. BTW this is an 8600/Sonnet G4-450, ATI Rage 128 Video card and an Orange Micro Firewire/USB card. George ;-) |

Whoa!!!! You may have hit on it! Yes I am also using HDST. The drive cannot be formatted with Apple drivers and only HDST is OS X friendly. I guess I have a catch 22 situation >:( And for that matter you may end up with the problem of not being able to load X if you are using the same setup. HDST was recommended by Ryan BTW and he is right, it works for OS X. I do use X sometimes with no problem if I have the drive on the internal SCSI. OH Well. |

Could it be a driver problem? What driver are you using on your IBM36LZX drive? there could be a conflict between the card and the driver. I use HDST drivers and they aren't compatible with ATTO software. Just another thought. |

Thanks for the info. I tried numerous things including the possible extension conflict. What it came down to was when I did try to update the rom to 1.66, "failure" every time. Removing the card also gave back speed that this machine normally has.The card is almost guaranteed to be defective according to Atto's troubleshooting pages. The card is from OWC and Larry has offered to replace it a few days ago but I thought I'de try a few thing first but none helped. Oh well...these things do happen. Thanks again!! George ;-) |

I finally got mine to work after jackin with it for about a week. First try booting the system with the shift key down and see if that will let the system boot. If it does then you may have a extenion conflict. On my box (9600 Sonnet G3 500 ATI Rage 128 Video card) it seemed that one of the extenions was not letting it boot ,(it would get to the deasktop and started to look ok - then it would error). And after a few reboots with adding extenions each time it would crash again but if I did a cold restart a couple of times it would work, why I dont know with a scsi card and extenions ? I would use the system for a while and then added a few more extenions reboot and now its "seems" to be working OK . I havent tried loading X on it yet want to make sure it stays stable ..Good luck |
