Here's my config: 7500 w/ CarrierZIF/G3 233 bumped to 275 Mhz, 280 mb RAM, running OS 10.1.5, external GV Teleport 56K V.90 modem (serial)-- I'm trying to configure Earthlink Total Access for OS 10, and when it tries to dial up the 800 number nothing happens -- no dial tone, no dialup, no handshake. I get an error message to the effect that it could not connect to the Earthlink server, and tells me to check the obvious, restart the modem, etc. When choosing the modem it gives two possible options in the Network/Modem CP: GV 56Kflex and GV 56 K X2. Got the modem used without documentation and I don't know which standard applies; niether appears to work. GV site is less than helpful and I can't find any software on the site that is OS X - specific. The modem works great in 9.1 but obviously I don't want to jump back and forth. Haven't tried it in Classic yet. Am I missing something? Help! |

Yeah, it's definitely the modem port, and the Network modem port tab, vs. the printer... |

I was suckered into buying a GV V.92 modem because their box blurbs told me I'd have on-hold capacity, etc. What the box didn't say was that they hadn't developed the software for that. Two years later, I called the folks at GV and they told me they had no intention of developing any such software for the Mac platform. When I asked how many people had complained that they they'd sold their product falsly, they said "no one." They'd had absolutely no complaints from anyone anywhere in the two years since they'd sold a modem with old V.90 Sys 9.0.4 software and no support for the product in the box. Yeah, right. That said, I had no luck with the modem strings supplied with 10.0. But the Sys 9 strings work - if you haven't gone DSL yet, just drag any old scripts that worked under 9 into you modem scripts folder in Library. The GV Universal 115k works fine. I also made up a basic AT&F default string using good ol' Modem Script Generator. |

Bastards. Turns out they got sold to another company, which got sold to another company, niether of which has any interest in supporting legacy GV products. WAAAH. Thank God it works anyway in 9.1, and I only payed $25 for it. FYI folks, the actual error message I got in case you run into it is: "The connection script has failed. Please verify your settings and try again." I think I'm gonna skip the whole issue and go DSL. I can get 2 or 3 free months of service for the cost of a new analog modem... |

Have you checked which port you have the dialup configured for in X? If the modem is physically connected to the modem port but X is looking at the Printer port for the modem you would get the exact results you discribe. Britney |
