I have had a major 7600 computer failure, losing the entire hard drive and processor. The Users folder is backed up, but the system & apps have to be be redone. Parts will not be here until Monday. In order not to lose 2 days, can I build an OSX system on my G3 PB, and later transfer it to the 7600 using Carbon Copy? |

Thanks for the advice. Monday came and went- and no replacement upgrade card. The PD is ready, and I believe the F/W Target mode will work. This has taken an enormous amont of time to recreate, so it better work. Now I have 100% Retrospect backup. Tough lesson. Thanks to both. Bob I will report the success. |

Carbon Copy Cloner appears to work well, and it is true that Mac OS X installs pretty much the same stuff for every machine. (It does leave off some applications in some cases, like the DVD player etc.). However, I don't think that Carbon Copy Cloner works over the network (I could be wrong, though). If I'm remembering that correctly, then the question would be how to access the drive from the G3 PB on the 7600. (I suppose that SCSI disk mode might work). And looking at your post again, I guess it's Monday already :-) |

I used Carbon Copy Cloner to move 10.1.5 from an 8600/300 (604 processor) to a B&W G3, so it appears that OS X installs a more universal version than the installers for the Classic OS. That is not to say that it will work, but I would guess there is a good chance it might. bill |
