Hey Great forum... I looked around a bit and didn't see anyone with this problem other than someone mentioned the mkext file takes up a fair amount of memory. I'm trying to install OS 10.2 on a Power Computing PTP w a XLR8 450 G3 upgrade. I'm using an "apple" CD ROM, a 8x NEC version on the external slow SCSI bus onboard. I have 512 Mb Ram, an ATI Nexus in the first PCI slot, a Sonnet Tempo 66 adaptor running OS 9.2.2 on a Maxtor 80 Gb ATA drive, on a second partition, with the "to be installed" OS X partition on the first 8 Gb of the HD. Using the latest XPF version. It seems the mkext file won't copy off my CD ROM even after I set up the internals as recommended. It's an Apple ROM so that isn't the problem. The installer CD itself is new, and already has worked on multiple machines, and on this one with other CD ROMs (not apple certified so they won't complete the install) so it's not scratched or dirty. Seems to be the file itself or the CD ROM configuration for some reason. I've gotten the initial install and reboot off two of my unsupported CD ROMS I own, a TEAC and a Toshiba DVD ROM.... XPF installs the mach_kernel fine, although butt slow (an 8x reader, heh) and seems to copy the mkext thing for a while before giving me a "disk error". But it copies off the other 2 CDRs no prob from the same bus... hmmm. Any ideas? Anyone who can tell me exactly what CD ROMs they managed to install from on the PTP or any old school macs would be appreciated too. I may have to buy yet another CD ROM off ebay to get this jalopy running. PS I've gotten that "dead" monitor response before too and removing the battery for at least 12 hours, and cuda reset work perfectly. So whoever is claiming XPF is a "killer" is ridiculous. Well, it is a killer app... but ya gotta have patience with unsupported machines. Thanks. |

Um, I suck. It was a finger print related error. Jaguar is now fully running on my comp. F-ing rock on. Long live the clones! |
