Not booting into installation mode |

I have a PowerComputing PowerCenter Pro 210 G3 500 MHz. I partitioned my Seagate Barracuda 9 GB drive into two partitions, 2.5 GB for OS 9.1 and the rest for OS X. After a fresh install of OS 9.1, I ran XPostFacto 2.2.4, chose the Mac OS X 10.2 CD as the "Start From", and the "OS X" partition as the "Install To" disk. I clicked Install, XPF copied some files, and rebooted. At this point I expected it to boot into OS X installation, but it only boots into OS 9.1. I have no idea how to make it boot into the installation mode for OS X. Anyone else have this problem and know how to solve it? |

XPostFacto writes some NVRAM settings which should instruct the machine to boot into OS X rather than OS 9. But this sometimes doesn't work (as in your case). The best way to diagnose the problem is to set the "output-device" in the Open Firmware menu of XPostFacto, and then hold down command-v as the computer restarts. You should then get some kind of diagnostic message on the screen (assuming that is what you set the "output-device" to) before it gives up and reboots into Mac OS 9. |

No, verbose mode says nothing. I am still unclear on how XPostFacto is supposed to work. It's obvious that when the machine is booting it's going directly to the OS 9.1 partition. How is it supposed to know to boot off the OS X partition to start the installer? |

I used Drive Setup to partition it. |

What software did you use to partition the drive? The utilities that work for this purpose are Apple's Drive Setup and Intech's Hard Disk SpeedTools. Other utilities often lead to the symptom you describe. |
