Has anyone else had problems with incomplete file transfers, usually with files larger than 10 MB? Better yet, does anyone know how to fix it. (Sure do wish the forum was searchable. Nudge, nudge....) My error message reads: The operation cannot be completed because some data cannot be read or written. (Error code -36) |

OK. So it looks like the forum software ignores filters out special charachters. You'll have to look at the man page entry for ifconfig to get the full syntax of the command. In the terminal enter "man ifconfig" then hit return. For sanity's sake I think there may be a gui utility available for all of this too. I think I remember reading something to that effect on Macfixit or Macintouch. Anyone else read the same? |

I thought I put the full ifconfig command in but it did not come through in the post. Here it is again: "ifconfig enX ". No quotes. |

You could check to see if your ethernet is running at full-duplex. You can check this in the terminal by running "ifconfig" (no quotes). Near the last line of the output it will indicate whether you are running at full duplex or not. You can change this on the fly with "ifconfig enX " where X is your ethernet adapter. If you are running on built-in ethernet it should be en0. If you have added a 10/100 card then it is en1. You can also play with your Maximum Transmission Unit (MTU) setting. This is also in the output from infconfig. It should be 1500 by default. You could make it a little larger. My thought is that either your machine is defaulting to half-duplex and your hub, switch, or router is sending you packets at full-duplex; or IP packets are not segmenting properly when they are passing through your interfaces and causing the freezes. I don't have access to a terminal right now but if you look at the man page for ifconfig it will give you some guidance. |

Yes, I have the same problem with transfering large files over my Airport network. I've tried using command-line ftp, mounting the remote volume and drag-copying, and even tried Timubkto Pro. In ALL cases, a transfer in either direction causes my 9500 to freeze with a blank screen after about 6-7 MB have been transferred. It doesn't matter in which direction the transfers are going either. I haven't seen this problem when copying from one disk to another on the 9500 only. My problem only occurs during network transfers over Ethernet. |

OK, that was my fault. I'm just talking about copying files from disk to disk (or from disk images or CDs) on my computer. (Thanks for your help though.) |

Yes it has to do with the modem settings. Had the same problem. I believed I turned off the autoprompt and auto disconnect features. I turned on verbose logging and turned off the setting above verbose logging (can't remember which). Left the software (or hardware?) compression on. No problems. I also downloaded speed download for osx from the apple osx site. Well worth the shareware fee, stable, easy and fast! drpepper |
