I just found that there a lot of time that the susyem hangs after the devfs /dev There are some strange things about that as the system hangs there after every update that needs restart also I found out that is the system starts normally it hangs there and if it starts in verbose mode it does not. I do not know what is the meaning of this but is very strange Also if the system hangs for a lot time, the only way to fix it is to reboot at a very early system boot proccess. (before the verbose mode show any text on screen and after the hard disk starts to read) this is also verty strange |

I just found something very strange. When the CD and DVD drive is hanging during the booting process. There is a procedure to mase it avaiable again. Restart in single user mode (apple and S during restart) and after the restart type exit on the prompt. It will not hang where it hanged before |

They are telling me that the DVD is not supported, even if it is working perfectly under OS 9 and X 10.1.x. Also there are time that works in 10.2. Is it possible to see what the system does during this devfs /dev in more detail?? Is there an XPF driver that is loading with the Acard one? (a patched SCSI driver or so?) that causes the provblem??? Oh the Acard cards are shown as SCSI in OS X. and so and the DVD. It is very strange that Acard actually does not care for the problem as I think that they do not have a lot of reports for the problem. So is it possible to be a XPF problem??? |

Well you are right that after I remove the DVD Drive is working with no problem. The problem is that I need to have the DVD drive working. I sent a mail with the problem to acard (The developers of the card) in order to see if they can fix the problem. Until then I just wait with no DVD drive??? |

Yes, that's normal--the first time, it is loading the Info.plist file, and the second time, it is loading the actual driver. Though you should only get this after doing an install or upgrade or something--generally, it should just load the Extensions.mkext and not have to load each driver individually. |

I have a simmalsr problem, the only device that is remotly considered an IDE drive in my firewire drive (IDE drive in a case). other than that and my firewire CDRW everything is scsi. In Jag i also get this weird verbose mode when i hit cmd v , it almost boots twice. over the Apple icon all this text about loading files from HFS+ volume. this takes about 30sec to do. everyonce and a while i can catch one of the names and they are the same as ones that load later on. is this normal? |

Yes, I have had a couple of reports that this problem can be fixed by disconnecting an ATA CD or DVD drive. |

I have an Acard ATA 133 card with a Hard disk on the first bus and a DVD rom on the second. Could this be a problem of the card. When I disconect the CDROM the problem is not occured. |

Hmmm. I've noticed that when my system hangs during startup 7 or 8 times out of 10 it's while Appletalk is loading. Does this mean anything? |

It appears that this error can sometimes occur when there is a problem with a device that is not the boot disk. Sometimes disconnecting a device will help. For instance, one user found that to avoid this problem, he had to rearrange the connections to an ATA card so that a CD-ROM device had a channel to itself. |

I asked a friend of mine about this problem (Linux User) and told me that the only way that this could hang is when the system cannot mount the boot volume. The problem is that the system already is starting and so it knows what is the boot volume. I even tried to change the throtle. I first placed it to 14 and then to none nothing changed. I have hangs during booting at the exact same point of boot process. Could be a diference because I have a second SCSI hard disk which is slow and needs some time to spin up. Can I give time to disks in order to spin up and so to give the system time to continue to load??? What could finally be the problem? |
