Hello Ryan, everybody: I have, for the past month, been trying to get my system to work in OS X. The problem started after I had installed about 906MG of OWC memory modules and seemingly successfully installed 10.2. However and without warning, the whole thing just froze. I have since tried to re-install from scratch 10.0, 10.1, and 10.2 but to no avail. The install process starts off all right but then during the 'Finishing up' cycle, the computer crashes, with the error message that it was 'unable to write file' but which 'file' it does not say. I have even re-initailized the 18GB disk on which I had initially installed OS X at low level and with zeroeing, but all to no avail. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I need to do to correct my difficulties? I did return the memory modules to OWC but my problems remain. My system is a PowerMac 9500 with a Powerlogix G4/450 upgrade, and 352 MB of RAM, 1 internal IBM 2GB HD on Bus 0, ID 0, another internal 18GB Seagate Barracuda HD on Bus 0, ID 1, and a third external Seagate 18GB Barracuda HD on Bus 1, ID 2, to which I am trying to install X. I would apprecaite your suggestions. Thanks Enrico. |

You said that you have problems to write a file on the disk. So I can thnk of some stuff. The first is if your memory have problems. There are situation where the memory cannot write to the disk because is have a problem. Try to test the memory with a memopry testing utility as the Gauge PRO. The second problematic thing could be the hard disk, but you said that you format it and it did not found any problems. The Low level and zeroing is testing and for bad blocks so the disk is OK. The final problem could be in the CD Drive or the CD disc. Try to use you CD disc with an other computer (Install the OS on you disk at a friends computer), to thes the cd, or use the CD Drive unit at a friends computer. I think that you will probably going to find the problem. |
