Need recs for CD-ROM or CD-RW |

Please help: I posted a similar query a monthe or so ago and no one offered any advice. I have a heavily modified 7200 (TNT motherboard, XLR8 daughtercard with G3/275) running 9.1, 9.2.1, and 10.1.5. The 24X SCSI CD-ROM I've been using in it (not Apple-branded) no longer works since the OSX install, forcing me to use an old 4X external Apple CD drive. Can anyone make recommendations for reliable brands/models of SCSI CD- ROMs or -RWs I should look for to replace it? Ideally I'd like something I could boot off of. I also have a Sonnet ATA 100 card installed -- should I get and IDE drive instead, or would it just be too painfully slow running off the card? I've had some speed-related iTunes and Quicktime problems with the 40 GB hard drive that's attached to the card. |

I bought a Matsushita (Panasonic) OEM 12x CDROM on ebay for something like $15, and it boots nicely. It's a far cry from the 4x that my 9500 used to have in it. Look for something similar, and you should be OK. |
