Currently am running XPF and 10.1.5 on a Miles2 scsi card...but this card is not a good choice for running jaguar due to firmware problems. What other choices do i have? |

Apparently, I got lucky. I just bought the beige G3 ROM ATTO PCI card. From other posts, it seems that the beige G3 ROM card works but other versions don't. |

Skip, The ATTO ULD2 card is nice, but myself and others can't get it to boot in OSX? Do you have one that boots OSX? |

ATTO Express PCI. OWC has it for $29. Best investment you'll ever spend. I had an Adaptec 2940U2D die on me in an OS X install, too. Hmm... |

ATTO has posted ExpressPCI Configuration utility (2.1.0) and firmware for PSC and other PCI host adapters (but not for UL2D, Catch-22 for some of you), being a native OS X application (if you can move the card to a machine where it does work would help). I mention using in NewWorld etc because I have three macs, and while a card won't work in all, I can install or test and upgrade and be sure it isn't hardware issue. If I can configure the card in one machine (beige) and transplant it to 7300 and have it booting from there. I was having trouble with the UL3S in my NewWorld and was able to change the timeout value which was incorrectly set to 1 ms (default is 250 ms0 which was causing trouble with ANY drive on that one channel. Might want to see what's in ATTO software downloads... It was listed on Version Tracker so you've probably already seen it. |

I've had it with trying to run osX on my PTP....sorry guys but i think I am jumping ship, I think I am going to buy a B&W G3 and migrate all my stuff to it...that will get me a few more years, But I am no longer having fun dealing with crashes in osX...Thanks Ryan for 2 great years, your software ROCKS!!!!!! |

I have a 29160N and it went bad on me, I lost the ability to use it when booted to 9. It was very strange when it happened - happened when I installed 10.1 - I was running in X for a long time (months) then I noticed that I couldn't access my files or drives in 9. What's wild is the firmware updater can find the card but the control panel software says that it can't. Adaptec won't support my problem because I used an upgrade card other than Newer's. So I went IDE and saved $ and headache. I still have the card and drive, althogh it's useless to me now. When I get a new world machine someday, I'll probably use it again, since it has an external scsi port and support for LVD/160 drives. stephen |

Quit right about the 29160N, my bad... Um, the Atto UL2D does have problems in "vintage" systems (oldworld) therefore since this forum is about OSX on old world macs it would be a bad choice. If it works great in the beige G3 or a B/W, thats fine, but irrelavent to this forum. My Express PCI PSC's (two) boots of the LVD connecter perfectly, and I have used enough different drives with them to feel good about recommending them. Also, my benchmarks show there is no difference in throughput when stepping up to the 29160N or ATTO UL2D over the Express PCI PSC. Not even with a two drive array. marty |

What problems? You've followed the instructions on how to update the firmware? have you talked to Initio about it? There is a 29160N, but no 39160. The UL2D that people have trouble with in vintage systems works fine in Beige G3, even Rev A, even using the 1.64 firmware. the PSCd is single-ended and I was only able to boot off the narrow 20 MHz channel, not the LVD connector in 7300. Have you looked at messages over on the MacGurus forums? |

I recommend the ATTO express PCI PSC which shipped in the Beige G3(apple firmware). This card is bootable and problem free in several of my systems and has just as good throughput as more expensive and more problematic 39160N. Also consider the Acard 66 IDE card, which is about 50$ and lets you use the inexpensive IDE drives. It also has been great for me. I recommend it over the more expensive 100&133 cards, because it appears as SCSI which allows you to run it on partitions larger then 8 gig... Marty PS 11/12/2002 ---> 10.22 Marty |
