Well an update is available that allows ASP to recognize the L2 and L3 caches. I installed it and it works but I'm wondering if this means I don't need L2Cache config anymore? I uninstalled the Powerlogix 2.1b14 cache utility and ASP still acknowledges the L3. Prior to deleting the PL utility, I've been getting a lot of hangups especially when I am doing extensive reads or writes (such as permission repairs, virex scanning, or verifying a hard drive) to my drive. Not sure if its a ram issue or the fact that I had all 3 of the cache utilities installed at once. I did install 2 128 meg dimms. I'll have to check the memory utility that has been mentioned in this forum. |

I think you should use the sonnet software. You can use the sonnet software + powerlogix if you want to over clock the L3... http://users.erols.com/jslewis/Josh/sonnet.html but using just the powerlogix software WITHOUT the sonnet software sets some wait states/memory timings wrong for the L3. These timings being wrong causes some reproducable but uncommon crashes. I do look forward to what ryan is doing with his new L2/L3 enabler built into xpost facto. ASP with 10.2.x reconizes L2 and L3. ASP before that on OSX doesn't. The only thing I'm dissapointed about with the sonnet software is that it doesn't report any L2 or L3 to apple's CHUD tools (like the CPU prefrence pane). Ryans and Powerlogix's do. |

You shouldn't use both. If you have a Sonnet card with L2 and L3 cache, tuneup takes care of it. I reinstalled xPostFacto kernel extensions with the previous version of Sonnet tuneup, but now the new Sonnet tuneup advertises compatibility with starting Classic, so maybe I don't need to do that anymore. Your alternative I think, is to use Powerlogix Cache Control X (for the L3) and L2Cacheconfig (for the L2), as posted elsewhere in this forum. |
