10.1.5 solid; 10.2.2 flaky; NOT RAM |

Ok, I've done my homework, I think. I have a PM 7500, 800+ Mb of RAM, XLR8 Carrier ZIF w/ 400MHz G4. The system runs solid in OS 9.1 -- or at least as solid as OS 9 gets -- and memory tests left running overnight always return no errors. It runs solid as a rock in 10.1.5; well, ok, I've had like 3 or 4 OS crashes in the last year. But OS 10.2.2 freezes within an hour or so every time. I have shuffled, swapped, removed, and otherwise messed around with my RAM arrangement to no avail. I first tried to upgrade a 10.1.5 installation, and when that kept freezing, I created a whole new virginal installation. And while that seems a bit more stable, it is still flakier than 9.1. Everybody here says "bad RAM, bad RAM," but I'm here to tell you that RAM that tests perfect, runs 9.1 and 10.1.5 without incident, but not 10.2.2 does NOT point to bad RAM. I'm sorry, I don't buy it. There is something else that is the problem with my installation, not bad RAM. I have had most of my freezes while running iCab 2.82, a program that quits suddenly without further incident under 10.1.5, but freezes EVERYTHING under 10.2.2. But I have had PhotoShop 7.01 also freeze up the machine under 10.2.2, so my story is that 10.2.2 is a weak sister, and I'm sticking with that story. If anybody has any suggestions, I'm all ears, but for now, this boy is running 10.1.5. |

Well I had both L2cache and Powerlogix installed. I removed them once Sonnet tuneup 1.2.6 was available. I still can't verify/repair permissions. With the other two installed the bar wouldn't get past the e or the r in permissions before freezing up. Now I can get to the second s or the i before I get the freeze. I may have to try de-interleaving. |

I did the uninstall of the PowerLogix code, then used Ryan's L2CacheConfig, and so far about 8 hours, including a fair amount of iCab this evening, and no freezes. keep your fingers crossed. |

I switched from powerlogix to Ryans, and suddenly my system works. With the Powerlogix enabler my Powerlogix 450 wouldn't even boot at 450... Weird, but it does have a "b" in it. Marty |

I've been using the PowerLogix 2.1b4. I had tried your L2CacheConfig before, but not noticed whether it affected the problem. I will try it again. Are there any others I should try? |

Some people have been able to solve problems of this kind by using different cache control software--which are you using now? |
