Well I would like to say about some finding about the new ACARD drivers. The fiorst and most important thing is that that the computer does hang during boot at the "defs/ dev" section when my DVD is connected. But except that there is an a problem. When I use the system at a random time that sysetm hangs and displays a message that I have to reboot the machine. I did nnot had this message before and so I tried see what is the problem. Well the only way that I could resolve the problem without having to desconnect the DVD rom Drive is to turn on my previusly inside the computer CD Rom (I have it connected to the external SCSI). What is happeing is the system needs something that the external CD ir providing and so it does not hang??? Does someone else having this problem??? Thanks |

The logging of panic messages isn't working on older machines. However, I have a couple of ideas about how that might be fixed, so I will experiment with that when I have a moment sometime. It would be a convenient feature. |

Ryan I tried to change channel and master slave. The problem still exists. I also found out that the system is becoming extremly unstable when the DVD is connected. There are times where the system displays the message that I have to reboot the machine (aka kernel panic). I read that this creates a log file of the problem but I cannot find it. I think that this happens to machines that uses the new firmware and so they do not need your program to install X. Is there a program that I can install in order to monitor - log all these system problems in order to inform you, ACARD about the errors??? or even to see what the system does during the "defs/ dev" hang. Thanks a lot |

Sometimes changing the way that the DVD ROM drive is connected to the card helps--for instance, putting it on the other channel, or switching master and slave, etc. |

Mine also hangs at the defs/ dev line, if I have a CD in the CD-ROM drive when I reboot. I have an Apple ROM 24X CD-ROM I bought on eBay. I used to hang at "defs/ dev" two or three times and get an "errno 2" hang at least once, when switching from 9 to X, until I pointed my startup disk in X's System Preferences to my X drive and locked the control panel. This reduced the number of hangs to nearly zero. |
